The annual event of Tile of Spain Awards for Architects & Interior designers is now in its 18th edition. It is held by the Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturer’s Association (ASCER) to celebrate projects that make use of Spanish made ceramics. The entrees of architects, designers and students are invited from all across the globe. This year the total prize of 39,000 euros will be divided in 3 categories – Architecture, Interior design and the 3rd award is being given specifically to Architecture student’s final degree project. The winners of the first two main categories will receive 17,000 euros each whereas the student project winner will be given 5,000 Euros.

In 2018, Joan Miquel Segui Colomar won the first prize in the architecture category for his use of Spanish ceramics in the new entrance at Palma’s Intermodal Station. Colomar used ceramic lattice in his work which the judges thought marked a return to the Mediterranean tradition as a filter between exterior and interior and they applauded the same. In interior design category Xavier Marti and Lucia Ferrater took 1st prize for House Overlooking the Sea. The judges loved the designer’s incorporation of ceramic floor Spanish tiles to form a connection between different spaces within the dwelling while forming a backdrop to the other materials.
