Becoming successful in the music industry requires a lot of grit, tenacity, and creativity. This oversaturated space has welcomed countless aspiring artists who want to share their music with others and become a household name all over the world.

Yet starting a career as a music artist can be daunting. Take it from Kejuan Stratford, aka Superstar KJ, who had to go through the same experience. But with the right experience, he managed to grow his career and even reach 100,000 streams on Apple Music, a feat that meant a lot to him since he came from a humble background.

Born and raised in Fort Lawn, South Carolina, Superstar KJ enrolled in Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) for motorcycle mechanics where he then graduated. Soon, he enlisted into the Army National Guard.

It was there in basic training when he realized that singing and songwriting was his passion.

Since then, he has continued growing his career and personality as he continued to learn new things from the music industry. Here are two of those lessons that he wants to share with new artists.

The Value Of Humility

When things take a turn for the better, it’s no denying that some artists tend to bask in the spotlight for too long and lose sight of their initial goal.

To this, Superstar KJ implores them to practice humility at all times. Not only will this keep them on the right track for the growth of their career, but also earn the respect of both their fans and peers as they avoid developing a negative attitude towards others since nobody appreciates a conceited artist.

“Always be humble. Treat the janitor the same as you would treat the CEO of the company,” he said.

Focusing On The Music

Throughout his career, Superstar KJ realized the importance of staying focused on making good music.

Many things can distract artists, especially those who are new to the industry. At this stage, distractions can hinder the development of any artist’s career.

As a result, Superstar KJ advises them to focus on making good music. There are many artists around there who are vying for their time in the spotlight, and one way that artists can capture the attention of the people is by putting out quality music that can captivate audiences and keep them coming back for more.

He also added that making the right connections through networking can help jumpstart a career in the music industry.

There are still many valuable lessons that artists can learn in their journey. Like Superstar KJ, they only need to be open to learning new things consistently along the way. “I have learned a lot about my career but there’s a lot more information that I need to conceive about the business,” he said.
