It is no surprise that the longer you work the more you get stressed. And stress does not bode well for the heart. “Stroke” is a journal that published some true facts about the risks of getting strokes, if you work too hard.
The study published in the journal mentioned that 1224 of the participants suffered stroke while 29% of 42542 reported working long hours. It reflects that the longer the working hours the more the worker is at risk.
The cardiovascular risk factors and previous stroke occurrences were noted from separate medical reviews. In the review, almost 10% of the people had worked longer hours for almost 10 years. Medical research says, that increases the risk of stroke by 45%.
It is even surprising that people under the age of 50 are prone to stroke. If you overwork yourself and work long hours for more than 10 years, being a victim of stroke is inevitable. Alexis Descatha, a researcher at Paris Hospital and Angers University in France said that “This was unexpected. Further research is needed to explore this finding. I would also emphasise that many healthcare providers work much more than the definition of long working hours and may also be at higher risk at stroke”.
The hustle mode and ‘busy is the new sexy’ is getting people to work more than their body can manage. This type of work condition is pushing us towards the stroke road. Unhealthy work conditions and irregular shifts can stress the body and the mind. It will obviously lead to the risk of stroke.
Other than this study, researchers have also found an interesting and depressing fact. They researchers at the Imperial College and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK found that civilians who live under threat of physical violence or in war zone also have higher risk of heart attacks.
