Hip-hop artist Compound got his start in the industry back in his hometown Madison, WI. He has always been involved in music one way or another, whether the business or creative side. He began making music professionally, trying to make a name for himself in the industry, around two years ago.
Compound understands the impact that saturation and exposure has had on the industry over the years. Compound explains that the biggest challenge of being an artist is the competition, but he has also learned how to leverage this competition to create impactful music. Though currently independent, he works with a large number of producers, stating, “Nowadays there are so many hot producers you never heard of on YouTube and Beat stars. I’ll work with whoever got bangers”. Additionally, he revealed, “Early next year I will be dropping the first single “Competition” off my solo album debut. The single is about how I’m only in competition with myself and no one else”.
The competition drives Compound’s everyday life as he explained, “Lately, I’ve been getting up early going to the gym and working out. After that, back home to smoke on only some of the finest cannabis from Los Angeles and eat breakfast. After that, it’s usually meetings or studio sessions until I head home to San Fernando Valley. I’m always working because I also have a successful clothing brand, which is a lot of work.”
So, whether it’s new designs or a new song, he says “I’ve got to push the grind don’t stop.”
