In the current digital era of YouTube, social media, easy content sharing and a flood of new information every day, it’s easy to miss newcomers to the entertainment field. Searching through endless reserves of unfamiliar content, we tend to stick with what we know and with what our chosen platforms recommend.

One new artist you definitely don’t want to miss is K-pop singer Sang Min Lim. If you haven’t heard of him yet, now’s the time to check out his music and catch up!

Sang Min Lim originally came to America from his native South Korea to study economics at the prestigious Ivy League Brown University. He then moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California, where he’s still studying law, and to start his modelling career.

When K-pop began making waves in America, Sang Min Lim found the confidence and inspiration to make his long-standing dream of a music career a reality. As he touches on in several interviews, he felt that his aspirations to becoming a pop star were regarded by those around him as unrealistic – his parents wanted him to focus on the more concrete, predictable future of his studies.

But he decided to go for it anyway, and we’re glad he did! He’s not giving up his law degree in the meantime, somehow managing to find time for both music and law school. When asked by one interviewer what it’s like trying to balance becoming both a lawyer and a singer at the same time, Sang’s jovial – if a bit evasive – response was, ‘Let’s just say I drink a lot of coffee’.

Sang Min Lim’s first single, Fantasy, premiered a year ago – and it has already amassed millions of views on YouTube. The accompanying video, featuring an appearance from dancer Dytto and directed by CeCe Frey and Chase Stockman, looks much more like a high-end music video production for an established star than a debut clip – see for yourself!

Sang Min Lim – Fantasy:

Sang Min Lim’s music has been broadly categorised as K-pop, though as we all know, that’s not that much of a fixed definition. Combining elements of pop, electronic, R&B, and hip-hop, Sang produces mesmerising music and equally hypnotic music videos to create a sensational experience. Sang Min Lim’s songs combine English lyrics with Korean lines here and there, strengthening his music’s association with K-pop.

His charisma and talent, as well as the extremely high quality of his recordings and videos, make him worth the attention of every K-pop fan.

Those whose interest was piqued by Sang Min Lim’s debut single didn’t have to wait long for more: over the subsequent 11 months, he has released a further trio of songs. The latest of them, Levitate, premiered a short while ago.

Though there hasn’t been word of when his next single – or perhaps album? – may be due for release, Sang has indicated in interviews that we can expect more music from him soon. Head over to his YouTube, , or Instagram to keep up to date and be among the first to hear the new releases!
