We recently interviewed Chuanyuan Tan, a rising star in mechanical engineering and process engineer at Han’s Laser, to explore AI’s transformative power in smart manufacturing.
Tan, who holds degrees from Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Marshall University, focused his studies on smart manufacturing and AI’s role in mechanical engineering. His international experience shaped his perspective on AI’s potential to revolutionize traditional manufacturing.
Joining Han’s Laser in 2023, Tan quickly became a key technical expert. He spearheaded the development of several laser cutting and welding solutions, significantly improving production efficiency and product quality. Addressing thermal deformation challenges in manufacturing processes, Tan’s research helped optimize laser parameters and path planning, leading to substantial productivity gains for the company and a revenue increase of 32.3% from 2023 to 2024. Furthermore, he integrated AI algorithms into process optimization, leveraging machine learning to dynamically adjust parameters, resulting in unparalleled machining precision and stability.
Beyond technical innovation, Tan champions knowledge sharing. His meticulously crafted technical documentation fosters collaboration and knowledge transfer. His deep understanding of mechanical engineering ensures optimal equipment maintenance, supporting seamless production. His papers, “The Application and Development Trends of Artificial Intelligence Technology in Automotive Production” and “Artificial Intelligence in Smart Manufacturing: Technologies, Challenges, and Solutions,” have gained significant academic and industry recognition. His work analyzes AI’s impact across automotive design, welding automation, and intelligent quality inspection, using Tesla and Toyota as case studies to illustrate the benefits of machine vision, collaborative robotics, and predictive maintenance. He also developed a deep learning-based intelligent inspection model for real-time defect detection, significantly enhancing quality control.
