Russian is one of the official languages of the UN and is slowly becoming famous in the west. This means that you can not ignore it. Online language learning platforms have reported increased demand for online Russian tutors and teachers.

You are probably thinking about how popular can this language that is spoken in one country be? However, it would help if you remembered that most European countries still speak Russian because of the Soviet Union’s history. Additionally, Russian is taught as a second language in Eastern Europe, meaning children grow up with the ability to speak multiple languages.

Language experts argue that it is an easy language to learn because it is mostly standardized. This could be because Russia is a massive country, the largest globally, but the same language is spoken throughout.

How Difficult Is It To Learn Russian?

One of the things that you will find challenging while learning Russian is its case system. This is because it is not similar to that used in English. The language has six cases, each of which causes nouns to change, decline accordingly.

At first glance, you might think this is impossible. But, if you work hard enough, it becomes easier sooner rather than later. The Russian advanced case system makes its word order very flexible. As a result, you can easily understand a sentence in any order because all the nouns must follow the case system.

In terms of phonetics, Russian is described as sounding very harsh to listeners’ ears. Pronunciation and stress are critical parts of the language. This is particularly true for nouns; the stress could be random, making it challenging to learn how to speak Russian. For instance, a change in stress can cause the word “lock” to become “castle” and vice versa.

Why Is The Popularity Of The Russian Language On The Rise?

There are countless reasons why students choose to learn Russian. For instance, some learners claimed they picked the language because it is enjoyable, while others learn it for literature reasons.

Russia has an unmatched reputation for its literature. Additionally, Russia’s literary heritage is still celebrated widely. When you visit the Pushkin House Museum in St Petersburg, don’t expect to find tourists. Instead, you will find more Russians in the museum interested in discovering more about their national heritage.

The Benefits of Learning Russian

It Is One of the Most Spoken Languages in the World

Recent reports have indicated that Russian is the eighth most spoken language in the world. Moreover, it is also the most spoken language in Europe.

Therefore, when you learn Russian, it will open up massive access for you. If you can speak Russian fluently, the countries you can comfortably visit include Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Moldova, and Belarus. Additionally, it is one of the most popular languages in most parts of Eastern Europe.

Russians Don’t Speak Much English

If you are planning to travel or take your business to Russia, don’t count too much on your English. Reports reveal that Russia has some of the lowest rates of English proficiency. Studies suggest that only 5 percent of Russians can speak fluent English.

Moreover, in many Russian cities, you might not find many signs written in the Latin alphabet. This is a tourist’s worst nightmare! Therefore, if you want to enjoy your trip to Russia, it would help to have a basic understanding of the Russian language.

Needless to say, Russia is the largest country in the world by area. It also crosses 11 time zones and has up to 29 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This shows that learning Russian is worth your while.

Learning the Language Is an Exciting Challenge

Everyone loves a great challenge, right? Being one of the most complicated languages to learn because of its complex grammatical structure, it might put many people off.

However, if you love a good challenge, learning Russian is ideal for you. Then, once you finish learning, you will have a real sense of accomplishment.

The Russian Language Has A Bright Future!

Russia is relatively less popular as a second language. However, global economic reports have stated there are numerous economic opportunities emerging in Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia.

Therefore, learning Russian will position you for better opportunities in the future. The options will come in different sectors.

Bottom Line

Monolinguals are slowly finding it challenging to remain competitive in the current world. Globalization has helped move the world towards becoming the proverbial global village.  In this regard, Russian is gradually emerging as a marketable language.

There are numerous opportunities associated with fluent Russian speakers. For instance, the demand for online Russian tutors is rising every day. Moreover, many industries are venturing into Eastern Europe to take advantage of its massive markets.

Therefore, if you make the bold move to begin learning Russian, it will be worth your while. All the best as you get started!
