It takes a certain level of professionalism to reach the pinnacle of an industry. At the height of his career, Richard “Ojay” Ojuri is still consistently peaking in the finance and banking world. Coming into the banking industry, he had always known that he wanted to become a leading figure in the banking sector. Through hard work and a passion for his craft, Ojay has now become part of the 6.9 percent of people who are at the professional level.

Born from both Nigerian parents, Ojay grew up in Prince Georgia, Maryland, but is a Nigerian through and through. He studied Business Management in Information Systems at Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, which was the first HBCU. He recently graduated this past spring and started his career in the finance and banking world.

“Out of all my colleagues, I am the only one who went to an HBCU, and I want to open the door for many other HBCU graduates who want to get into the finance and banking world,” said Ojay. With his strong relationships skills, the esteemed professional banker has quickly excelled in the banking industry, fostering strong connections with his clients and peers alike.

Most of Ojay’s clients put their trust in him because he makes sure that they feel safe around him. He even assists them with financial advice, going above and beyond his normal duties to accommodate his clients better. As an expert in his field, he advises all HBCU recent graduates who want a career in banking to fully pursue the path that is right in front of them.

“The process will not be easy, but it will be a beneficial career path, and the number of networking opportunities you have will be limitless,” explained Ojay.

It is also his goal to connect other high-level bankers and private bankers with other African Americans who want to get in the field. He wants to build a community where African American professionals help each other grow through collaboration and mentorship.

Apart from his banking expertise, Ojay also plans on establishing a foundation alongside his cousin Michael. They plan on giving back to their community by teaching people that there are other ways to make money than sports and music within the African American community. Through the years, he has managed to influence many people the same way he has been influenced by other people from his community that have decided to forge a professional career path.

People like Olufemfem, who is a Biotech investor and Dr. Brian Nwannunu, who is an orthopedic surgeon, have greatly influenced Ojay’s career decisions. He hopes to impart the same influence to other individuals as he continues to blaze his own path.

During his free time, Ojay also hosts a radio show on Ablazin Radio in Beltsville, Maryland. The platform allows him to communicate with people within his community and amplify his positive voice to push the boundaries of what people can do and how they can achieve their lifelong dreams. In the near future, Ojay envisions himself finishing his Master’s degree and becoming a lifelong master in the private banking sector.
