The hip-hop scene is a steadily growing part of the music industry, with multiple talented individuals cropping up here and there. As an artist, it often becomes incredibly hard to differentiate oneself from the rest of the pack. Fortunately, Adrian Thomas Townsel has all the talent in the world to turn himself into a big star.
More famously known as Ayestí, Adrian Thomas Townsel is an American hip-hop artist and Instagram marketer born in Lima, Ohio. The thriving hip-hop artist has always prided himself as an artist, rather than just a rapper. His art heavily draws from influences such as Juice WRLD, Lil Wayne, and T-Pain. Like most talented artists in the music industry, he combines a mixture of storytelling, complex melodies, and catchy lyrics within each of his songs.
In January 2021, Ayestí made headlines on CBS and Fox-affiliated news stations under his former name 4gmusiq. His first single of the year, “Mind Games,” surpassed 10,000 streams in just a months’ time. Every time he released something, Ayestí would always draw the attention of a legion of fans captivating new ones and old ones alike.
In 2020, his hit song “Martian” became a certified fan favorite, being featured on thousands of playlists and popular YouTube channels “Royal Vibes” and “Rap Layer.” Ayestí combined his knowledge in music with an Instagram marketing agency to use the platform to grow a fanbase. Over the span of two years, he gained nearly 20,000 followers and made a name for himself by posting one-minute remixes to popular songs.
Currently, the remix for “Back in Blood” by Memphis rapper Pooh Sheisty has amassed over 300,000 views on Instagram and continues to grow to this very day. Before creating music, Ayestí was an honor roll student all the way through high school, studying finance and math. After graduating, he quickly realized that there had to be more to life than going to college and working a 9-to-5 job.
He always made songs with local artist, SpaceBoii, but never took the time to go to the studio and record professionally. Late in his high school years, SpaceBoii, unfortunately, took his own life. Using the apps SpaceBoii used to make music, Ayestí released an “Uber Everywhere” remix but eventually deleted it. Nowadays, he pulls all genres and all influences and strives to throw hints of some of his all-time favorites in each song, such as Boys Like Girls, Billie Eilish, and Big Sean.
Ayestí is always on the hunt for knowledge. He makes it a point to learn consistently. “I want to have all the knowledge of a record label and remain one person. I can mix music, harmonize, make a beat, find the key of a song, and sing,” says Ayestí. “There is nothing in the music business that I am not willing to learn and master,” he passionately added.
In the near future, the esteemed rap artist envisions himself owning a record label. “I will still be making music whether I am recording vocals or making beats. I have a long list of artists that I want to work with that dates all the way back to 1965,” says Ayestí. He also sees himself helping new artists push their music out the real way, helping them achieve their goals along the way.
