Melvin Brewing has engaged with the local community in Wyoming since its establishment in 2009. The beer brewer has started a scholarship to help local students attend college in areas of the state where there are economic issues. The brewer is one of several local companies trying to have a positive impact on the academic sector. Engagement with the local community has benefits for business and education in many ways, with Melvin Brewing reaping several benefits.

Consider Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility has become a part of the daily work of most companies in the 21st-century. Edlanta reports the research into Corporate Social Responsibility has shown several benefits for those choosing to engage with their local education sector. Harvard Business School published research showing the benefits of investing in local schools can lead to improved financial performance.

Alongside the improved performance your business will see from investing in CSR, you will see your profile raised in the local community. A successful business needs to retain a positive public image in the local community. Working with schools and colleges to improve performance will give your company a profile boost.

Giving and Receiving

The initial thought behind the charitable work of Melvin Brewing was not to receive anything in return. A company performing well has a responsibility to give back to the local community without questioning what it receives in return. The basic idea behind CSR is to assist in the future of the community for all its members.

A company investing in the local school community will be shocked by the level of commitment they will see from parents, students, and teachers to their brand. Providing school supplies, scholarships, and funding for events usually results in an increase in traffic to social media platforms and physical locations of a business. Inc reports the smallest donations of unused office supplies will lead to more support for your company from the local community.

Bring the Real World into the Classroom

Students from pre-K through to college often feel they are studying subjects with no real-world applications. A business owner or employee who specializes in a specific business area can have an impact. A company can invite members of an academic community to their site to learn about the work they do and how education helped them. Explaining how academic subjects assist the business sector is an important step to take.

Show how the Workplace is Changing

The workplace is evolving all the time, with some positions disappearing and others appearing. The development of the internet and social media is having a powerful impact on the workplace and provides opportunities for students to join the workforce. Educators can gain a better understanding of the changing face of the workplace when a company works closely with them.

Alongside the ability to engage students and educators in the way work is changing, a successful company is usually fun. An entrepreneur can create a corporate culture reflecting their needs and interests that students can identify and understand.

Offer Expertise

We all understand the life and career of a teacher can be difficult. The areas of interest for students can be vast, with some areas being out of their comfort zone. A company that has expertise in a specific area can provide their experience and knowledge to students. For example, an engineering firm can assist with the development of a project using its skills that give a glimpse into the real-world use of academic subjects.

Look for Future Employees

Engagement between a business and the local academic community has the power to improve the future of any industrial sector. Every business is looking for employees who are passionate about their career, with some levels of experience. Every industry needs to remain successful by interacting with its future employees from a young age through school projects. By playing a role in the success of local schools and colleges, each company can identify the students who have the ability to achieve success in the future. BY creating a relationship with students from an early age, business owners have the chance to get a head start on the recruitment process.

Interns are a Good Option

The role of interns and internships is often controversial, with the cost of these difficult for many to reach. An intern will gain a lot from their time with a company, including the ability to understand the real-life work expected of them. The arrival of an intern can be positive for a business by bringing enthusiasm and creativity.

The use of community engagement and internships has the power to create a well-educated community. The dropout rates for students who have a focused goal for the future are lower than in areas lacking business involvement. Grades for students who are engaged in the local community are higher than those who lack the focus of seeking a career in a specific industry.
