The second game in Marvel’s Spider-Man series─ Miles Morales; widely described as “PS5’s biggest launch title” is due to be released in the fourth quarter of 2020. This was announced by developers; Insomniac Games and their new owners Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) at the play station 5 live events on Thursday, June 11th, 2020.
Available reports reveal that there were speculations in the gaming world about the exact scope of the new series. While some believed it is a direct follow-up to Marvel’s 2018 Spiderman, others opined that it may be an expansion of the previous series.
This confusion may be traced to conflicting statements by key executives in Sony.
While speaking to the UK’s Daily Telegram, Simon Rutter, Executive Vice President, Head of Europe Business Operations, SIE, described the upcoming game as “a major enhancement” and “expansion” to the PS4 title.
“Here’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there have been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features,” he added.
Only a few hours later Bloomberg News reporter in a news tweet debunked this claim saying, “Spider-Man Miles Morale is not an expansion or enhancement or remaster, despite a Sony executive’s comment this morning. A source tells Bloomberg News. Nor is it Spider-Man 2. It is a brand-new standalone game similar in scope to Unchartered Lost Legacy.”
Regardless of the confusion and speculations, the game’s developers have assured that it would be a complete game. “We really are completing this hero’s coming of age in our game. It’s a complete story,” said Brian Horton, Creative Director, Insomniac Games.
Insomniac Games also tweeted “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the next adventure in the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe. We will reveal more about this standalone game at a future date.”
Sid Shuman, Senior Director, SIE Content Communications also added, “the games coming to PS5 represents the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe; studios both larger and smaller; those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work at developing games that will showcase the potentials of the hardware”.
The Miles Morale Story
Full details about the plot are sketchy as at the time of filing this report. Insomnia has released a few hints about what gamers should expect; the scene will open in winter and will take place one year after the events of the previous game; before Christmas. It will revolve around a war between an energy corporation and an advanced criminal army; the battlefield would be Harlem─ Mile’s home.
The game developers have also said Peter Parker, the dedicated hero of the Spiderman series although alive, will not be a part of the new series. The trailer, however, begins with Parker’s voice saying: “A hero is just someone who doesn’t give up…your dad said that. He was right. Now it’s your turn. Go be a hero Miles.”
Expected Launch Date
Although Sony has not officially announced a launch date, there are speculations that the launch might take place late November since the previous game was launched the same period, last year.
Estimated Price for Spider-man Miles Morale
Upon release, the Miles Morales Games; exclusively built for Sony’s PlayStation 5 is expected to be available on online stores like Dhgate with the new price estimated to be less than $60; this price estimate is based on its similarity in scope with Unchartered- The Lost Legacy, according to Horton.
He said, “You’ll experience a full story arc with Miles, one that’s more akin to a game like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in terms of its overall scope. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an important, heartfelt, emotional and essential experience to expanding the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe. And we hope it will be for you as well.”
It would be recalled that Lost Legacy went for $39 in the USA instead of the full $59 since it was shorter than the conventional Unchartered Game.
In a press statement released on June 12, SIE revealed a list of new PS5 accessories that will improve the gaming experience. These include PULSE 3D wireless headset which offers 3D audio support, HD camera, media remote and dual sense charging station.
Meanwhile, Marvel has come under fire for allegedly editing out the Black Lives Matter logo from its cover image.
