Sports have been hit during the times of pandemic. Especially the sport that people played for recreation like football, basketball etc. But it has been observed that Tennis is safer compared to others and the USTA (United States Tennis Association) has even said that the sport can be played safely in cities and states. This is especially for those parts of the country which have Phase 1 of the White House’s reopening guidelines.

Tennis is conducive to social distancing. Once it is ensured that health and safety are at check, then tennis is a safe sport to pursue. The USTA has released a guideline paper for everyone in addition to the hand washing and sanitizing guidelines. And if you happen to be in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut, then you are at a perfect place to practice the sport. You can reach out to Manhasset Tennis where you will be trained by nationally recognized coach Darrel Bielawski.

The guidelines that USTA has released mention that there should be no hand shakes and high fives after the game. The players should not change their ends of the court during the match and use a new racket grip every time they play. Avoid touching the face or any surface if one is experiencing any symptoms associated with coronavirus. The racket needs to be wiped and disinfected with all the equipment used after a game.

Tennis is a no contact game played outdoors mostly. As the participants are at least 60 feet away from each other, they are maintaining the social distance all the time. The guidelines are made in accordance with the USTA’s Medical Advisory Group so that tennis is made even more safer.

There is no evidence that coronavirus can be transmitted via a tennis ball but the scientists advise an extra layer of precaution. They say players can use 4 or 6 balls instead of the usual 3 thus ensuring each server only touches balls from their own can. Racket or foot of the opponent can be used to scoop the ball in case the ball ends up on the other side of the net.
