The universes of Star Wars and Star Trek have not only captivated audiences for decades but have also inspired a slew of parodies that bring humor and a fresh perspective to these beloved franchises.

Actor Vic Mignogna, who played Captain Kirk in Star Trek Continues and even has a fun Star Wars parody on his YouTube channel, shares some of the most hilarious and memorable spoofs that fans of both series should not miss.

Star Wars Parodies

Hardware Wars (1978): Often cited as the original Star Wars parody, Hardware Wars follows the adventures of characters like Fluke Starbucker, Arty Deco, and Ham Salad. This short film, directed by Ernie Fosselius, is a comedic take on Star Wars using household items as props and was groundbreaking for its time.

Star Wars Undercover Boss: Starkiller Base (SNL, 2016): In this Saturday Night Live sketch, Adam Driver reprises his role as Kylo Ren, who goes undercover as “Matt,” a radar technician, to find out what his subordinates really think of him. The sketch humorously explores the mundane aspects of life on Starkiller Base.

Darth Vader Marriage Counselor (2023): This comedy sketch imagines Darth Vader as a marriage counselor, using his dark side powers to mediate between couples. The absurdity of Vader in such a role provides plenty of laughs.

For the Empire (2022-2023): This web series parodies the Star Wars universe by focusing on the everyday lives of Imperial officers. The series, which has two seasons, offers a humorous look at the bureaucratic and often ridiculous side of the Empire.

The Best Jedi You Never Heard Of: This animated parody, popular on Reddit, features a unique animation style and includes humorous takes on classic Star Wars scenes.

Star Trek Parodies

Galaxy Quest (1999): Often hailed as one of the best Star Trek parodies, Galaxy Quest stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman as actors from a defunct sci-fi show who are mistaken for real space heroes by an alien race. The film cleverly satirizes Star Trek fandom and the behind-the-scenes drama of TV production.

Black Mirror’s “USS Callister” (2017): This episode of Black Mirror is a dark and thought-provoking parody of Star Trek: The Original Series. It explores the ethical implications of virtual reality and the abuse of power, all while maintaining a faithful recreation of the Star Trek aesthetic.

The Orville (2017-Present): Created by Seth MacFarlane, The Orville started as a parody but has evolved into a loving homage to Star Trek. The show balances humor with serious sci-fi storytelling, making it a unique entry in the genre.

Futurama – “Where No Fan Has Gone Before” (2002): This episode of Futurama reunites the original Star Trek cast for a hilarious adventure that pokes fun at the series’ tropes and its passionate fanbase. The episode is a must-watch for any Star Trek fan.

Star Trek Parody – Carol Burnett Show (1960s): The Carol Burnett Show featured a memorable Star Trek parody with Leonard Nimoy making a cameo as Spock. The sketch humorously exaggerated the characters and situations from the original series.

These parodies not only provide a good laugh but also showcase the enduring impact of Star Wars and Star Trek on popular culture. Whether through clever satire or affectionate homage, these spoofs highlight the creativity and humor that these iconic franchises continue to inspire.
