Alexa Kober, a skilled wordsmith possessing an exceptional talent for narrative, guides readers into a realm of enchantment and awe with her captivating creation, “Dalli: The Dog with the Alligator Tail.” Showcasing a perceptive grasp of the enchanting juncture where imagination meets heartwarming storytelling, Kober beckons us to embark on a mesmerizing expedition, trailing the endearing character Dalli and his remarkable escapades. In this tale that resonates universally and emphasizes the potency of camaraderie, bravery, and the embrace of individuality, Kober crafts a narrative tapestry that captivates readers across generations, unveiling a world teeming with whimsy and wonder.

What was your favorite part of the writing process for your new book, Dalli, the Dog with the Alligator Tail?

My favorite part of this process was working with my illustrator, Dima Mahmoud. Watching her bring my story to life through the absolutely magical creations she drew brought me joy. This project wouldn’t have been the same without her.

Did you draw from personal experiences or real-life events while crafting the story?

When I was 22, I had a cardiac ablation, which drastically altered my life and made me feel isolated from my peers. It has been a long journey of healing since then, and the biggest lesson that I have learned is everyone has something that sets them apart from other people and in finding self-value, you will also find a community of people who will uplift you.

How do you hope readers will connect with Dalli’s story?

I hope young readers and parents alike will take solace in Dalli’s story. I can’t think of a better way to ease a child’s back-to-school nerves than to read books like this with them and talk about any feelings that they may be having.

How do you balance creativity and imagination with writing a story that resonates with readers of different age groups?

I believe the only way to write a story that resonates with readers of different age groups is through creativity and imagination. Nothing can unite people of all age groups and from different backgrounds like a good story. I am looking forward to seeing the connections that this story brings within classrooms and throughout the world.

Do you have a favorite children’s book author who has influenced your writing style or storytelling?

Dr. Seuss is someone who I really connected with when I was growing up. I hope his imagination, creativity, and power to use rhyme to move a story forward show in my work, as well.
