10 Topics You Need to Learn More About in 2023

About 80% of humanity has access to a smartphone and the internet, meaning that all you have to do to inform yourself on the topic is google it. You don’t even have to type it now that almost 50% of people use voice assistants. Sure, not all sources are as credible, but you can always uncover the truth to dig deeper into the subject matter. With that in mind and without further ado, here are ten topics you need to learn more about in 2023.

1. Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is probably the hottest topic of 2023. You see, near the end of the last year, there was a massive breakthrough, and many people are still stunned by it. In the past, it was easy to tell an AI-written text, an AI-generated image, and an AI-generated voice. Now, it’s no longer as easy.

The thing is that a lot of people are scared, and it’s no surprise seeing how there’s so much fearmongering around this new technology. Sure, every change is scary, but the only way to fight the unknown is with knowledge. The more you learn, the more you’ll understand.

2. Cybersecurity

Cybercrime is at an all-time high. Never before were there more people online, which means there are also more malicious entities on the internet than ever before. At the same time, about 6.92 billion people use smartphones and the internet, and most don’t know that you need an antivirus on your phone (not just your computer).

Many people don’t know what phishing is, and even more, people seem oblivious to the fact that just because you can’t forget your only daughter’s birthday, this doesn’t make it a good password. You need to learn more about cybersecurity to stay safe.

3. Cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrencies and DeFi may completely revolutionize the future of money and digital assets as we know them. For instance, due to effortless cross-border transactions and low transfer fees, more and more people are using cryptocurrencies to send remittances and conduct international trade.

Moreover, this could also be a great investment. For instance, some of the latest projects you can view here are potentially lucrative investments. You won’t be able to tell which before you’ve spent some time researching the topic. Like always, investing without understanding what you’re investing in is risky, even reckless. This is generally a rule that you should abide by.

4. Health and wellness

We live in uncertain times, times that we’re not anthropologically designed to withstand. We’re no longer chased by lions daily, but the amount of cortisol a simple morning alarm can cause would surprise you. We’re surrounded by micro-stressors that are slowly eroding our mental well-being and even our physical health.

On top of this, we’re leading sedentary lifestyles. While food is present in abundance never before marked in human history, it’s also of exceptionally low quality (for the most part). The only way to stay ahead and care for yourself is to learn more about health and wellness and start living by these principles.

5. Financial literacy

You would be surprised to learn that many people can’t handle basic budgeting. The problem is that it doesn’t matter how much money you make if you can’t budget. You’ll always be low on funds, and there’s no talking about reaching affluence (let alone upward mobility).

You also want to learn how to manage debt, set up an emergency account, and do taxes. Enrolling in a financial course and downloading financial apps is always a great way to start. However, there’s nothing wrong with googling the topic you’re interested in. For an individual (non-bookkeeper and non-accountant), a rudimentary understanding of the topic is good enough most of the time.

6. New language

Learning a new language has never been more accessible. There’s no excuse for knowing just one language in today’s world. There are so many courses online, but you can also take a more frugal route of downloading an app like Duolingo and starting there.

Once you’re done, there are so many movies, series, and video games in the native language that you can download to get real-life experience in listening to the target language. Online, you can find native communities and even find yourself a pen pal who is a native speaker of this language. The whole world is at your fingertips; why not use it?

7. Popular psychology

Understanding tips and tricks about why we feel how we feel can help us progress in life. Books like Atomic Habits can help you develop better habits that will pay serious dividends further down the line. Then, there are books like How to Win Friends and Influence People, which will serve you both in your personal life and professional networking.

You can access the words of some of the brightest people derived from hundreds of thousands of hours of data. Just one of these tips can help you change your life around. You can also read the words of some of history’s most renowned philosophers and see the words of wisdom that have stood the test of time.

8. Self-sufficiency

In the moments of global crisis, it’s getting harder and harder to know what tomorrow brings. This is why some people decide to take the self-sufficient route. This way, they get more control over their lives or a greater sense of control.

Read about owning a tiny house, installing solar panels, switching to smart systems, and more. Remember, this is not just about reducing the cost of living; it’s about producing all your family and household needs to survive. This way, you can buy peace of mind and develop greater resilience to instability.

9. Your broadband options

The internet you use is one of the biggest decisions in a modern household. If you have the option, you should always go with fiber internet. If not, you should go with cable internet and then DSL (in that particular order). Fiber internet is still not universally available, even though it’s in more and more metropolitan areas.

To continue with our previous topic of self-sufficiency, if you’re living in a remote location (off the grid), you may also want to consider satellite internet. This way, you own your infrastructure and don’t have to change where you live to get access to the faster internet.

10. Geopolitics and international relations

Your vote matters, but to understand what you’re voting for, you need to understand what people are saying about things that matter. As you can see in the last few years, geopolitics and international relations can dictate oil prices, affect inflation, and affect the lives of regular people in more ways than one.

By learning more on this subject, you may even be able to predict massive global shifts. Another advantage is that it becomes the major talking point when something like this happens. Understanding geopolitics and international relations may be great for your social life.

A person who doesn’t read is at no advantage compared to a person who can’t read

Never before was knowledge so available. This means you can pick up your device (which you’re currently reading this on) and educate yourself on several topics. Choose these topics carefully since many subjects currently affect your life or may do so.
