The 5 Criminal Law Cases that will Shock you

We asked law and news experts worldwide what the most shocking criminal cases were, which is what they told us.

1 – Bodies in Barrels, Australia

We asked expert criminal lawyer Sutherland, about the top criminal law cases in Australia and the outcome. They informed us of the Bodies in Barrels murders in 1999, when 12 bodies were found sliced up in barrels in a north Adelaide backyard. Ultimately, the victims numbered 12 – primarily men and two women. The victims were found strangled, or with electric shock wounds and burns on their body parts. The main culprit, the Bunting, was sentenced to 11 consecutive life sentences. The other murderers all received life sentences with a minimum of 18 years.

2 – The Moors Murders, UK

Between 1963 and 1965, Myra Hindley and her lover Ian Brady killed children from their local town. Their victims were aged between 12 and 17. Brady and Hyndley were both jailed for life in ’66, although police never found the body of one of the 12-year-olds. Brady and Hyndley both died in custody, Hyndley in 2002, and Brady, after several hunger strikes, died in Ashworth Hospital in 2017.

3 – The Killer Clown

John Wayne Gacy killed an estimated 33 people throughout the 1970s. The killer lured men and young boys to his ranch near Chicago and murdered them. He proceeded to keep the bodies in his crawl space. Gacy was arrested in 1978 in connection with the disappearance of a local 15-year-old. His trial occurred in 1980, and the jury deliberated less than two hours before finding him guilty. Gacy was executed by lethal injection in 1994.

4 – The Red Ripper, Russia

Andrei Chikatilo raped and murdered more than 50 women and children between 1978 and 1990. He would stab them with a knife, later confessing to police that his killings were always sexually motivated. He admitted to 56 murders but was only tried for 53 of them. The Russians put him in front of a firing squad in 1994 for his crimes. Although justice may have been served, it will not replace those he killed.

5 – Kroll, Germany

Joachim Kroll topped this list of criminals with high-profile, shocking cases. This German serial killer murdered 14 people that we know of. He strangled his victims to death and than did unspeakable things with the remains. He was caught when his plumbing system was clogged up with human remains. A neighbor complaining dobbed him in. He was sentenced to life in prison in 1982 and died in 1991 from a heart attack.

Criminal law prosecutes these people.

Criminal lawyers are the people who both prosecute and sometimes represent these people. It’s horrible work, but someone has to do it.
