The Best Netflix Shows To Inspire Women

Netflix has a whole host of shows with inspiring women at the center

Whether you’re usually the Queen of productivity and you’re having an ‘off-day’ or you’re the procrastination princess and you need someone inspiring to kick your butt into gear, Netflix has the answers. This might seem like controversial advice, but often watching someone absolutely bossing it, or at least trying their very best at it, can inspire us to take action too.

Netflix has been really ramping up the number of women taking leading roles in the titles that it offers, which means it’s easier than ever to find a boss babe to give you that jolt of inspiration that you might need.

Poker Queens

Poker Queens turns the camera on the women at the top of their game

Poker Queens takes a look behind the scenes of the world of competitive poker playing. Whilst some shows have done this for years, Poker Queen is a little different in that it focuses solely on the women at the top of their game. Each of the Queens in the documentary wants to win the biggest poker tournament in the world and each has their own method of getting there. Some go to their local card club to practise ahead of the tournament, others get stuck into the grind on online poker sites, all of them are putting in the hours though. This documentary might not be the conventional idea of progressing on the career ladder, but it does show that if you’re willing to put in the hard work, then whatever the field, you will eventually be rewarded.

Motherland

Motherhood is an enormously tricky journey and anybody that tells you it isn’t is either lying, or has something like a pet fish that they call their ‘child’. It feels great when you can be on top of everything, making those nutritionally balanced pack lunches and attending every school visit evening, basically Mom Boss -ing it, but Motherland reminds us of all of the other days that don’t go quite like that.

It’s hilarious for the most part, reminding us of all of the trivialities of life that can go wrong, but in other hearts it’s genuinely heartwarming and tear jerking. In its third season now, Motherland is a real adventure to watch. You’ll instantly warm to the chaotic main character, who tries relentlessly to keep on top of a messy life. The reason? I think all of us can see a little of ourselves in her. This series is a great watch for anyone who’s struggling to balance work and home life, as it really shows that whilst it can be a messy and unrewarding job, we’re all in it together.

Self Made

This is a mini series that will suit anyone who has ambitions of becoming their own boss. The series is based on a true story that incredibly few people know about, the story of how one woman became the first black female millionaire in America. This is the story of Miss C J Walker. The series begins following C J In her early adulthood, she works as a washerwoman, but has developed a tonic that can help hair to grow long and lustrous.

She starts by selling a few bottles to her friends, but soon the news spreads. Her hair tonic takes off and C J has to open a factory, employ people and fulfil those orders. Eventually things start to take care of themselves, C J is able to move into a mansion and begin living the life that she’s worked so hard to be able to. We won’t ruin the ending for you, but despite her incredible work ethic, great product and enormous wealth, life still isn’t all plain sailing for Miss C J Walker. However, don’t let that put you off, this story is certainly one of triumph over adversity and champions the power of a hard working and determined woman.
