Keep These 6 Things in Your Mind When Choosing a Real Estate Agent

Buying or selling a house is one of the most complicated decisions you will ever take in your life. And if you want this decision to turn out to be a good one, you have to make sure that everything goes easy and smooth. But that can’t happen if you are working with a person who is not aligned with your expectations. And to be honest, no one would fully comply with your expectations if they are too broad and too demanding.

Some people expect way too much from their real estate agent and end up being disappointed even though the person was right in their job. On the other hand, some people don’t even know if they are supposed to have a say and expect the agent to do this and that, they end up being taken advantage of and getting the rougher end of the deal.

Therefore, when you are pinpointing the person of your choice from a realtor directory, it’s important to know what to expect, and this article will help you.

1. A realtor should have a positive attitude

A positive attitude is literally the bare minimum to expect from a professional worker. By positive attitude, we mean the mindset of a problem-solver and rationalizer, seeing the bright side of things, and if any obstacle is faced, the ability to overcome that obstacle in any way possible instead of backing down and giving up.

Furthermore, the positive attitude of a realtor also reflects how they are responding to your problems. If you are dissatisfied, worried, or anxious about something, which is absolutely normal, your realtor should first listen to your concerns and support you, then rationalize with you to solve the problem, instead of making you believe that you are making this deal hard.

2. A realtor should have relevant experience and knowledge

Experience is one thing, knowledge is another, your realtor should have both. Experience dictates how much your realtor has worked and achieved in the respective department of the real estate field.

For instance, if you are selling a house, then you need someone who has sold enough houses to know the whole process, just like the REP Calgary Homes. On the other hand, if you are buying a house, then you should have someone beside you who has sold enough houses to know how to get you a good deal for a good place.

Apart from that, knowledge about the good and bad sides of the neighborhoods, real estate market trends of specific areas, and knowledge of the futuristic image of the neighborhoods should be possessed by your realtor. These things help you negotiate the price of the place.

3. A realtor is not your friend, they are your advocate

Don’t expect your realtor to do so much good for you and so little for themselves. As a client, you would always be their second priority because their first priority is themselves, which is completely fair.

Therefore, if any of your personal problems occur that collides with how you are behaving with your realtor, don’t expect your realtor to have your back and walk with you through the process. They are as free to do back out if the client doesn’t sit right with them as you are if the agent doesn’t sit right with you.

Realtors are your advocates, they can help you professionally where they are capable, but don’t expect them to act like best friends just because you are paying them good money.

4. A realtor should possess the proper documentation

Since a realtor is not your friend, you can’t just trust their words in the first meetings. You are allowed to ask for documentation of their experiences, licensing, education, references, credentials, and more. Be on your guard if they cannot show it to you.

5. A realtor should be professional and communicable

Professionalism and communication are the two most important things that every professional worker should have. And you are hundred percent allowed to expect your realtor to behave in a professional manner. They shouldn’t be late to meetings, they should get back to your emails, they should dress properly, and they shouldn’t shut your thoughts away when you are communicating.

Secondly, communication itself is a skill that few people can master.

If your realtor isn’t communicating properly, if they don’t pick your calls and don’t get back to your texts and emails, if they don’t provide straight answers to your questions and always beat around the bush, if they always try to convince you to act on what they are suggesting and not go with your own thought process, then it is obvious that they have something going on in which you are not included. In that case, you should say goodbye to them.

6. Your realtor should stay in touch with you

Realtors are always networking and expanding their circle. So, if the deal is done and you want to stay in touch, your realtor should welcome you in their circle with open arms. It is suspicious if they are not maintaining post-deal contact with you, but it is not necessarily bad. Either way, you shouldn’t hesitate to contact your realtor for any queries and advice after they are done dealing with you.
