Six Options Trading Tips from the Pros, Options Snipers

Jennifer Ross by Jennifer Ross

Finding an online community is key in today’s standards when seeking guidance for options trading. Internet communities, like the academy at Options Snipers, are relatively new for traders but that does not mean you should shy away from them. There are benefits to having a readily-available network to help steer you in the right direction. The Academy is a community in and of itself with the goal of showing anyone who wants to learn what they need to know to be a successful options trader.

Create a Trading Plan

One of the first things you need as a beginning options trader is a solid plan. You can avoid a lot of mistakes with a good trading plan. Some things you may want to consider are as follows:

·         How much of your portfolio are you willing to risk for one trade?

·         How will you find opportunities?

·         Does your plan reflect your goals?

·         Have you set your entry rules?

The point of creating a solid trading plan is to remove some of the fear that can come with options trading. A good plan can keep you from losing your shirt. In addition, creating a trading plan gives you something repeatable and trackable. A plan that is simple enough to repeat will help you learn from mistakes and keep you moving in the right direction.

Have a Clear Exit Plan

Too often investors deviate from their plans whether what side they are on, a winning or losing streak. The key to trading smarter is to stick to your plan. For instance, consider Warren Buffet’s principles of, “Investing by facts, not emotions”. The last thing you want to do is increase your capital because you’ve had a string of easy wins.

What usually happens, statistically speaking, the winning streak will come to an end. Trusting in your overconfidence or invincibility is an emotional response to winning. But options are a deteriorating asset; the longer you hold on to them, there’s more risk of them expiring before you can get rid of them.

Be Open to New Strategies

If you can’t be open to new strategies, you are likely to find yourself in a position where you OTM options when maybe it was something you never considered. One of the benefits to belonging to the Options Snipers academy is the community aspect. People learn from one another just as much as we teach. They all have something to learn, even the experienced traders.

Learning new strategies will also open new trading opportunities as well. You can’t build your own financial freedom if you aren’t willing to see beyond what you currently know.

Patience is Truly a Virtue for Options Traders

Every trader will have good trades and bad trades, that’s inevitable. We have all spun tales of a contract that took a dive when we least expected it. Trading can be tricky.

We understand because we have been there. The academy is community to learn how to harness patience and recognize the difference between a good option and a bad one. You do not always need to be actively trading; that is where impatience comes from. Whether in stock trading or options trading the biggest hurdle is to have patience and wait for the right trade to come along.

Keep Excellent Records

Experienced and successful traders will tell you it is important to keep good records. If you have kept proper track of your profits and losses, alike, you will be able to answer why and how you won or lost. Additionally, good records provide the blueprint necessary for you to analyze important factors like drawdowns and your average time-per-trade.

You can also compare that information to profit targets which helps you discover trends. One thing some options traders forget to include in their records are notes as to what your reasons were for actually making the trade as well. Always keep in mind that this is your business, and you may be the business owner, but you are also the accountant.

Do the Proper Research

Now, maybe you think we don’t have to include the importance of doing proper research, but you’d be surprised how many traders get caught off guard because they did not notice or factor in the market’s downtick and they wind up legging into a spread trade.

It is very tempting to get caught up in the market’s volatility but that can end up as a huge loss because of a very risky trade. Doing the proper research can help you decide what you want to achieve as an options trader, and it will help you become a better options trader. Plus, if you’ve done your research but you are still on the fence, run possibilities by your Options Snipers academy community. That’s what we are here for.
