At some point in our lives, we started on a different path from where we are now. And there are some instances when the experiences from the past have become a helping hand to what we’re doing with our lives now. Just like how music artist Neecy J used her past to further her present career.

Hailing from the DMV area in Washington, D.C., Neecy J learned her strong work ethic and unshakeable faith from self-made parents. Growing up, her life revolved around sports. Her high school basketball point guard skills earned her a scholarship to Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania where she majored in communication journalism with a concentration in electronic media.

But her skills as an athlete and innate smarts aren’t the only things that Neecy J possesses. She also has a commendable talent as a music artist.

Managing Stress And Burnout

The music industry poses a lot of pressure for the artists and the others who are a part of it. At times, this can lead to stress and burnout, which hampers their progress of creating new music or furthering their career.

Luckily, each person has a different way of managing this. And for Neecy J, channeling her experience from her past helps her a great deal.

“I’ve learned to push myself through stress and burnout from being a former collegiate athlete. A lot of those principles I use in my music career, but I also place my burdens and stress in the hands of God and pray a lot,” she said.

Following In Her Footsteps

Many other aspiring artists in the world wish to make a name for themselves in the music industry. But it’s not an easy thing to do. Here are some tips from Neecy J on how they can get their footing.

“They should focus on having a strong mind. This industry is not for the weak and you have to be able to block out the noise and the naysayers,” she advised.

She added that aspiring artists should also focus on having a great foundation, meaning having a small circle with people who they can trust and who believe in their craft 100 percent.

Aside from this, she said that they also have to believe in themselves and always find new ways to innovate.

“Be your biggest fan and also your biggest critic. As long as you believe in yourself that’s all that matters. Block out all of the noise and go get and achieve whatever it is that you want! It will not be easy but it will be well worth it to see your dreams come to fruition,” she added.
