Gilmas is not ready to give up on New York yet, in spite of  the  bad vibe!  For this french born and raised musician, leaving Paris for New York was a huge step: he sold his music studio and came to New York with just a laptop, a guitar, and no connections. He said he enjoyed the feeling of freedom, almost daunting, and the kick of adrenaline walking alone in the streets: it was ‘starting over’, indeed,  as he sings in the eponymous E.P released in 2019, reflecting on his past in songs such as Gone With My Youth.

Rite of passage to become a new yorker was hard, moving every 3 months from sublets to sublets, but he feels a part of it now, living in Williamsburg, BK, and producing songs from the ground up in the studio he patiently built. Gilmas loves to immerse himself in the music process, from writing, composing, singing, playing most instruments- bass, guitar, piano, percussions-recording, mixing and mastering. Sometimes he feels it’s too much to handle, but this control freak  accepts the challenge: for him, the digital music revolution gave power to the musicians: it’s not necesseraly the one that has the bigger means that does the best music nowadays, and he thinks it’s only fair;  you have to work hard though, constantly improve your skills  and be open to new sonic flavours.
