Neen is Becoming a Fast Growing Community of Digital Artists

The Word- Neen means artistic experiences related to, or via, a computer screen. Milto Mentas was born in Athens, and Neen is his brainchild. He always wanted to be a part of the movement. So, he went ahead and created a group called Neen, which welcomed artists who were passionate about creating art online.

In the early 2000s, the Internet was all about information. But now, it has become more than that. Now artists can share their artistic experiences online, and people can relate to it.

Neen is an art movement, created by the genius Milto Mentas alongside Mai Ueda, and today it has become a place for all artists that don’t want to be defined by social norms. The first piece of Neen art was displayed in a performance at Gagosian Gallery in New York in May of 2000. And the Neens was confounded by Mentas and Ueda in 2001. It was a group where like-minded individuals met and shared their idea of art.

Neen is a felling as well as a community of artists who believe in it. Mostly it is the feelings art evokes in the viewer. It is about how humans respond to the feelings of art and how they react to life being filtered through a screen. Neen’s art aims to spread happiness.

Some works happened to be part of the Neens Movement. Togetherness.org” by Mai Ueda, “Jesusswimming.com” by Miltos Manetas, “Oneaftertheother.com” by Angelo Plessas, and “Angleviner” by Joel Fox are the great works of the early Neens.

Miltos Manetas said, “Our visual landscape is a fresh one – because of the digital revolution – there is a need to create an appropriate environment for the arts – a utopia. A new word could define this environment.” That’s why they hired Lexicon to come up with a word, and they came up with Telic and Neen. And the latter seems to have better meaning.
