One of the common issue faced by home owners is a wet basement. The problem can lead to serious issues if not controlled. So it is necessary to get professional help to investigate the causes and sources of wet basement, and get basement waterproofing done from reliable sources.

There are many ways water can end up in the basement from the cracks occurring on the floor and in the basement walls or at the joints or through cracks that occur at the joints of the foundation walls or mortar joints.

The wet basements can be fixed to stop the leaks and maintain a dry area. It is absolute must to clear the gutters. The basements can be kept dry by simply clearing the gutters and won’t need any complicated water proofing methods. A gutter that has leaves and debris in it, overflows during the rainfalls, thus ending up in the basement.

Secondly it is necessary to check the home grading and the slope of the landscape. The soil around the foundation is loose thus the grading slopes towards the foundation resulting in collection of water around the walls of the home. This water then seeps in the basement. It is necessary to make sure that the landscape slopes away from the home foundation.

It is important to ensure that the window wells are kept free from all debris. Otherwise it ends up blocking the drain, eventually diverting the water to the basement. It is a must to check the window well properly. All these methods are necessary to keep the water away from the home basement. If this is done then there will be no need of professionals. But according to basement waterproofing Toronto team, if the water still seeps in, then it requires professional water proofing. There is a need to understand the cause of wet basements.
