Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan might meet President Trump later this year. The strained relationship between Pakistan and US is because of the former’s support towards terrorism. But with the new leader on the seat, US wants to re-think its relation towards Pakistan.

President Trump, attended the G-20 summit and discussed important global issues with Japan and India. And he wants to discuss America-Pakistan relation with PM Imran Khan.

The UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) is in September, and President Trump wants to meet Imran Khan on the sidelines. Earlier this year, Trump wanted a one-on-one session with Pakistan’s PM, but he was unable to meet him.

Mahmood Qureshi said- “Trump had extended an invitation to Premier Imran Khan. However, the Prime Minister could not travel to Washington because of the Budget session.”

A date for the meeting is yet to be decided by the parties. And both the leaders want to discuss important regional matters in the meeting.

The meeting is crucial because it will decide the fate of the US- Pakistan relations. Trump administration was very strict with Pakistan regarding its ties with terrorists groups, and warned it.

US put pressure on Pakistan to act on its involvements with terror groups. There are many groups like”Jashne Mohammad”, that operate on Pakistan soil. And US also accused Pakistan of providing military aid to the terror groups.

But recently Pakistan made peace talks. During the tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pulwama attack, Pakistan acted wisely and returned India’s wing commander Abhinandan safely home.

Pakistan’s actions and its effort to broker a peace deal in Afghanistan, shows its positive attitude. And US wants to have a talk with the country. Earlier the Trump administration took a rigid stance against the country but now things are changing.

President Trump earlier charged Pakistan of telling lies. He accused Pakistan of using Islamabad as a fund baby. And he also alleged that Pakistan used the US funds to support terror groups.

A talk between the nations is necessary because it will finally diffuse the tension between both the countries. And with Imran Khan in charge President Trump expects things to be different this time.
