What happens when you take your favorite childhood fairy tales and you sprinkle them with a modern twist? Well, you get William Moore’s new book– Twisted Fairy Tells: The Untold Truths; the first of his three-part fantasy series.

Narrated by Charles Wellington, the Keeper of Tales, this adult fiction novel takes a dive into a modern-day world that takes place centuries after the stories we know and love have already happened and have been retold to countless generations of children. That is, until the narrator informs his reader that the stories we know are, in fact, nothing like the reality of the true events. The real tales, some of which include darkness, death, and grief, have been written on dated scrolls and locked away from the public for hundreds to thousands of years. Charles then proceeds to let the reader know about the truth behind these untold stories and how they come together to form mystical events in magical places that have remained unseen in our world.

When asked why he decided to pursue a unique take on the dated tradition of fairy tales, Moore mentioned that many people didn’t know the original folktales weren’t actually written for children. The stories, some of which date back thousands of years, contained elements that were almost too daunting for any tale, including severe acts of violence, murder, and rape. But, over time, the stories were “sanitized” and retold as entertainment for kids. For the novel, Moore wanted the reader to be able to reminisce on stories that felt familiar, while still incorporating an “adult feel” to them, like the originals from decades ago.

The hardest part of the writing process, he tells us, was conducting approximately seven months’ worth of thorough research in order for the storyline to come together in a cohesive manner. Although Moore has completely reimagined classic fairy tales in an entirely new way within this fantasy world, the majority of the names, dates, and locations mentioned in the book remain true to their original stories. (In fact, he encourages his readers to fact-check them.) Moore also shared that the characters and events take place on planet Earth during distinct eras, but they all come together to form a shocking revelation.

Twisted Fairy Tells: The Untold Truths will launch in April 2021 as the first part of three in the series, with Part Two on the way for October 2021. While this novel focuses on introducing–or rather, re-introducing– the reality of the tales to the reader from Charles Wellington’s perspective, the second novel will go into further depth about how the stories landed in the possession of Charles and the rest of the Wellington family. The third part will then proceed to discuss the role of “The Guardians” in the series, which are the God-like beings responsible for the creation of this fantasy world and its characters. Each book will be diving deeper into the historic timeline of the series to give the reader a better overall understanding. “My ultimate aim is for people to want to become more familiar with the characters and the places beyond the pages,” Moore said. “Since I’m a big fan of cosplay, I enjoy getting to know the fantasies well enough to where I feel like I can experience them. That’s where I want the readers to be for Twisted Fairy Tells.”

And as we eagerly await parts two and three, Moore also tells us there is a project underway to complement the release of the series. The idea is to have a virtual, three-dimensional world online that will help bring the places in the novel to life for the reader. Using an augmented reality device, like the Oculus glasses, will allow the reader to walk through some of the magical scenes of each story. The nitty-gritty details are still being ironed out, but Moore assures us it will be unlike any experience that’s ever been done before. We can’t wait to see the magic of it all come to life.

You can find Twisted Fairy Tells: The Untold Truths available now on Amazon.com and other online retailers.
