1. What is your name?
2. Where are you from?
Harlem, NY but currently reside in Saint Louis Missouri
3. What first got you into music?
I would say that would be my grandfather who a jazz musician. He plays alongside ray Charles and BB Kong. He used to sit right beside me when I was 7 and teach me to play the piano and I have been playing the piano ever since. By age 13 I learned to play the drums and the saxophone. My brother also managed a lot of bands and artist when I was growing up as a teenager and I believed that sparked my interest to want to help independent artist as well.
4. Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I would have to say Jay-z, I admire the hard work that he put in not only to become one of the top artist in the world, but once of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs. He created a conglomerate alongside dame dash with roc-a-fella, and then years later created another one in Roc nation. I myself own multiple businesses but would love to be in the same room during some of his negotiations or just to chop it up with him just to get some feedback on what I’m already doing. I believe we could make some magic happen together in this music business especially with the abundance of talent that is out now.
5. How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
Well generally speaking I think that ever since the pandemic in 2020 it has made room for a lot of the independent artist to get their shine. Especially when it comes to digital marketing and streaming. It gives all artist and even playing field, major artist being forced to cancel tours, bookings etc. due to the pandemic made a huge Impact, artist are now doing virtual shows, also doing zoom interviews and radio station interviews online. Social media has also played a big part in artist marketing, from Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Spotify ads artist have had the opportunity to do all of their marketing with just a click of a button. Streaming has also been a major factor; I look at artist like T-Rell who I always knew was a great artist was overlooked. Seeing him having the #1 R&B album in the world gives every artist that has been doing it independently confidence that all hope is not lost. Being the ceo of Megatron Muzik Group a Major Independent Management company we rely on our internet resources for marketing and creating a demand for our artist. Just last year in 2020 we did over 4 million streams as a company.
6. What would you be doing right now if it weren’t for your music career?
Well I have a degree in Business Management and Human Resources. But honestly that was never my dream to spend years at a job just to retire and have regrets that I never pursued what I wanted out of life. Yes right now I am working double time at my job and also running my company. But I plan within the next 2 years to retire from the work industry and focus on running my Marketing and Consulting Company as well as my Artist Management Company.
7. What famous musicians do you admire?
#1 Jay-z simply because of what I spoke about earlier. His work ethic and his ability to adapt on the business end of things are incredible.
#2 Lenny Kravitz Phenomenal talent, he is a true musician such as myself. He plays all of the instruments in every one of his records
#3 Lyfe Jennings- He is a realest, relatable, and speaks about true issues in the world.
8. What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Stay consistent. No one respects the person who is all over the place with no direction. You must stay on task with your goal in mind and have a plan in action to get there. In this industry that we are in, we have to have our own direction and our own plan in order to give direction to others.
9. If you could change anything about the industry what would it be?
I would like to see the Music industry to go back to start being about the talent of the artist not just the numbers. It’s so much talent in the world today but will never see the opportunity because they don’t have enough Instagram followers or YouTube views. Also I would like to see streaming royalties be distributed to the independent artist the same way they are distributed to the major artist. I have seen so many not just independent artist but these major platforms rob companies for their royalties. That needs to change. The Music Industry needs to do better in 2021.
