After establishing Alliance Football Club in 2015, football coach Mehran Rowshan has been nothing but confident that he will fulfill his vision for the organization. Right from the very beginning, he has always imagined creating a regional hub where boys, girls, and their coaches can come together to participate in programs that put together education and the acquisition of life skills. Alliance will become the center of brain training, from mental health, decision-making, and nutrition, equipping young people to become the best version of themselves through football.
Mehran wanted to establish Alliance so he could use his qualifications, expertise, and training to make a lasting and significant difference in the lives of others through the discipline that football imparts to players. More than just playing the game, the passionate coach incorporates character-building components to guide young athletes even as they become adults and professionals someday. For Mehran, being able to do this through a sport that is very close to his heart is such a privilege.
“The world of life coaching currently does not offer something specifically designed for young people—there is a focus on therapy from the point of view to ‘fix a problem’ but nothing from the perspective of building a positive mindset through brain training and other relevant techniques, especially among amateur athletes,” Mehran reveals. “I want to adopt progressive and pioneering coaching techniques to help the next generation to build resiliency and new ways of becoming fulfilled. My unyielding and immersive outlook on work and lifestyle go hand in hand,” he adds.
As an individual, Mehran is a self-proclaimed student of life and is continuously learning. Dedicating himself to the noble task of enriching the lives of young people through football allows him to teach the value of accumulating knowledge. Moreover, his natural inclination to nurture young people’s minds and help them stay true to their values and morals to achieve success is something that he sees himself doing for a long time.
In 2019, while attending a personal development course in Portugal with world-renowned sports scientist Raymond Verheijen, Mehran realized that there is a big gap between helping young athletes tap into their most vital functions and achieving their overall potential. It then dawned on him that his role is to bridge the growing gap between physical performance, agility, and mental focus. Seeing that football is mostly focused on what athletes see more than what they learn on the field, Mehran decided it is high time to make life-altering changes in the game. Instead of simply telling players what to do, Mehran strategically guides their behavior toward developing excellent decision-making skills.
Mehran used the COVID-19 lockdown season to develop the brain training methodology within the context of team training. The new approach involves making relevant adjustments to include a more scientific methodology. One of the challenges that Mehran encountered is how to convince football coaches that skills are developed through the brain. In the end, he was able to find the most workable approach to make coaches more comfortable in training their athletes.
Mehran’s unique football coaching experience, having developed 300 drills and coached over 10,000 players to date, puts him in a position of authority to influence athletes and coaches alike to embrace the new methods he is teaching in Alliance Football Club. In doing this, they are not only developing world-class athletes, but they are also empowering them to be lifelong learners and successful individuals.
