In a genre that is constantly growing and evolving, the world has seen rising rappers coming out from anywhere in the world. And not only are they making themselves known, but they are also making sure they create a legacy just like hip hop artist and entrepreneur, Damion Brown, or who is most known now as Downtown Dame.
At just 17 years old, Dame moved from the poorest neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, to learn how to build a multi-million dollar business. He didn’t have a lot growing up but a mindset and passion that he will soon turn his life around. He grew up having to fight for his life all the time to survive, but because of music, everything changed.
Music was special to Damon because it saved his life. Because of music, he started a Black-owned record label and taught black entrepreneurship and modern music business for free. He has since been supporting other up-and-coming Black entrepreneurs and artists to become successful.
Not only that, but he also found a career as a hip hop artist. And, it’s easy to see how he has Broward buzzing by creating his unique style that showcases his lyricism mixed with a melodic flow. He listened to a lot of rap artists growing up and has heavy influences from the likes of Jay-Z, Ludacris, and 2Pac. He has since released his singles, Ride Out, Catching Vibes, and Taking Thrones, with almost 20,000 streams on Spotify.
Dame turned his life around with his passion and love for music, his perseverance to become better, and his commitment to making a difference in other people’s lives through his music.
Unlike many rising rappers today, he makes music beyond just making it to the Billboard charts and becoming a hip hop superstar. Because of all that he had been through, he wanted to make music more than just recognition. Dame always wanted to be that spark for someone else and help change their lives through his songs. He has since inspired everyday hustlers to keep going.
“It could be a single mom trying her hardest to make it, young kids graduating high school trying to figure out this world or even aspiring musicians that think you need a record label to make it big,” he shares.
Although he is relatively new to the music business, his passion and love for music have clearly opened up a lot of opportunities for him. He worked with a few established veterans and held his own on the upcoming B.C.B Tape 2 release.
While it was music that changed his life, what really pushed his career to greater heights is his relentless work ethic and his refusal to never be outworked by the next person. This made Dame someone to look up to in the music industry. He created a legacy among the community that no matter what your situation is, you can turn your life around, just like he did.
Music fans should be on the lookout for new releases and stream Downtown Dame’s songs on Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms where you can stream music.
