Florida born hip-hop artist, Edward Robinson is quickly becoming a household name in the music industry. The young, 24-years old have been turning heads recently as he’s filling the airwaves with his eclectic and imaginative sounds.
Robison ignores the customary, sharing a strong opinion about the current political issues ravishing American society, and he’s not taking a break, planning to release his first LP within the coming months. Each month around 34k listeners enjoy his music on Spotify, and he’s already known in 77 countries around the world. We had to set the stage, and recently interviewed the young artist about his origin story and what he has planned for the future.
ED, what’s your origin story?
There isn’t much to my history, but I was born in Port Orange, FL on 11 September 1995. I was about 8-years old when I started enjoying pure hip-hop music, fast track to when I was 16-years old, and I found myself performing and writing some of my lyrics. Since then I’ve just been working and finding new ways to leave a lasting legacy in the industry.
Tell us about your stage name?
I found that the name Edward was too formal, in a sense it didn’t quite resonate with my hip-hop personality and persona. My close friends and fans know me ED, but I go by @edthatsmycup on Instagram or EDDYKRUGER on some social media channels. It’s different, that’s what I want to bring to the world, being different in everything I set out to do.
Why a career in hip-hop music?
I’ve always enjoyed the genre, and I’ve seen the impact people such as Redman, Joell Ortiz, Jadakiss, and Roddy Ricch have brought to the world. Music has always been part of my life, and I will never look back. It’s a creative form of expression, a way to share ideas and thoughts with a larger audience.
Do you have any people or things you draw inspiration from?
In Florida there are loads, from YNW MELLY, KODAK BLACK to GLOKKNINENipsey hussel, these artists inspire me to create and overcome obstacles. I create my style as I develop, and speak an essence of truth, personality, and above all artistic awareness. Hip-hop offers the artist a way to express their culture, history, and ingenuity.
What’s your opinion on the current political instability in America?
I’m for the peace and equality of all humans, regardless of where they live. America was founded on the constitutional values for the people, offering and liberating them. The current police brutality which has forcefully seen many lose their lives isn’t what our nation is built on. We’ve always been a melting pot of cultures, sharing differences, yet remaining unified.
Any plans lined up for 2020 that we should know about?
I’ve got big ideas, and with great support from my fans, I’ve managed to make them a reality. In the coming months, I’ll be releasing an LP, with a few new tracks and singles. With this, I plan on taking my talents to the stage, but COVID-19 has made it difficult. I’m planning a couple of shows and gigs, as soon as all of these restrictions are lifted.

Times are changing, and the future will surely not be the same as we once knew it, but through and through, you should always keep an open mind and pursue your dreams. Stand up for whatever you believe in, even if it comes at a price.
