Robert Ian Bonnick is a man on a mission to empower people to embrace the differences among us to unite and empower each other. He grew up in state care in the UK and says this experience enhanced his appreciation of multiculturalism. Today, he works as a Tourism Architect in Bali and is the creator of an award-winning Q&A live show called SpeakUp Monday Group – Destination Indonesia.

He has had a very adventurous and inspirational career and has gotten a taste of various cultures and experiences such as modeling, marketing, branding, and public relations. He is proud of his entrepreneurial pursuits and hopes to inspire others to launch their own business.

Here are some of his tips to help entrepreneurs achieve success:

Focus on what you are trying to achieve

Many people embark on the road of entrepreneurship without a clear plan. While some say they attained success without having such a guide, most successful people in the area outlined a vision and their objectives. Bonnick explains that organizations often lose sight of the mission it has set out to do or why they want to achieve such goals. This usually happens when the company has lost motivation.

This is insight he gained from coaching. During sessions with his clients, he asked specific questions to measure their willingness. The questions included asking about their goals and priorities. He further explains that if persons don’t have the right level of passion, it could indicate that they aren’t willing to give the right level of effort needed to attain success.

Review your strategy or possible challenges

Once persons have outlined their mission, they are ready to go on to the next step, determining the strategy to help them achieve it. Bonnick, who has garnered much expertise in the tourism field, says that many strategies feature profit and loss indicators made without paying attention to the nature of the tourism industry. It is also critical to analyze the ideal customer and their spike calendar index, which measures the annual ups and downs, including the rainy season, public holidays, schooling calendar, people, and means of travel. This will help entrepreneurs better understand the possible challenges and make more informed decisions.

Know where the gaps or best solutions are

Once prospective entrepreneurs have identified the possible challenges, they should decide what the solutions would be and where they can be found. Bonnick believes that these solutions are often found in strategic partnerships.

He says people should identify the challenges and the solutions that can emerge. Whether a tourism board or a large hotel group, they should ask themselves where the strategic partnership gaps are, if any. He explains he analyzes such gaps at a local, regional, and international level.

“Breaking it down into these three constituent elements engages three different market segments and ultimately three differing points of tourism foot flow into your organization or nation. The result is constant tourism flow emanating from different sources giving stability and profitability over time,” shared Bonnick.

Other advice for entrepreneurs

Additionally, having a budget to go the distance is critical. Bonnick wants to help entrepreneurs understand the importance of planning and having a good budget. Next, they will need to create a plan and update it. This may include detailed steps, a timeline, strategic partnerships, and more.
