Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, Gribov holds a bachelor’s degree and worked as an HR manager for four years before he realized that his chosen career was not in line with his dream. From there, he decided to venture into micro-business projects and quit his 9-5 job, a decision that has paid off heavily and is still paying off to date.
Recalling how his journey as a microentrepreneur started, he said, “One of them was an Instagram account about marketing, social media and networking. And this idea worked. By posting useful content on Instagram, I gained 200k followers in two years on Russian Instagram. After that, I created an online university that helped people learn a new skill and make money online.”
According to Gribov, the university idea worked like clockwork. He spent the next few months inviting digital and social media experts who created and designed courses to help young Russian people learn how to provide demanding services to businesses and make money online at an early age. “In 2020, we had 10,000+ students and made $1mln+ of revenue.”
With his newfound success, Gribov decided to pursue international audiences, and in February 2020, he launched a new brand on Instagram and TikTok. Although he recalled the brand took a while to catch on, with his dedication to reaching an international audience, particularly non-Russians, six months later, the new brand clocked 700k and 800k following on Instagram and TikTok, respectively, and from there, he built a six-figure online business.
For Mikhail Gribov, the first step to growing an online presence particularly on Instagram is picking a niche based on one’s interest and passion; that way, the public can identify your account with a particular niche or category. Another important thing to do is find inspiration from top creators in one’s chosen niche—see what they are posting, improve on it, make it relatable to your audience, and do it better.
Mikhail Gribov is committed to changing the digital marketing and influencing landscape and helping several other young people realize and build their platforms. This, according to him, is an initiative he hopes would catch on and spread globally. “My long-term goal is to create a product or service that potentially every person on earth will use, as one day Steve Jobs created the iPhone.”
