Coding Bootcamps: Everything You Need to Know

Coding boot camps provide an avenue for students to learn how to code within a noticeably short time span, as most coding boot camps are open for about three months at a time. However, users should carefully choose, because some of these coding boot camps are scams, cheating students out of the hundreds or thousands of dollars charged and barely giving any real value in the form of training or opportunities, in return.

Nonetheless, there are still excellent coding boot camps that honestly help students to pick up strong skillsets over short periods of time as well. When deciding about which coding boot camp to attend, students have to carry out a careful investigation. A great tip to follow is to check for job placement statistics for people who have attended specific boot camps. For example, check whether this coding camp has produced graduates who now have great jobs in the field of tech or if the boot camp has not produced a good number of graduates who now hold jobs in the tech areas of interest. After all, the main reason for attending a coding boot camp is to get a good job.

An essential piece of information to note, is the type of classes offered in a boot camp under consideration, or if the boot camp is moving with the contemporary trends in the world of tech. This way, you can easily compare the skills being taught at the boot camp with what is expected of you (should you get a job in the tech field you’re interested in).

Lastly, if a student will be attending a boot camp, he or she should outline their expectations from the boot camp. While a coding boot camp is a smart decision if you are desirous of a job as a programmer, software engineer or web developer, moving from one level to another in the world of tech often requires a college degree. The thing is, coding boot camps focus on specific skill sets needed for particular jobs, but are often unable to compress the knowledge delivered over a two to a four-year period in college, within the limited time available.

As such, many coding boot camp graduates are likely to need to return to school for more knowledge. If however, what you seek is a job and you don’t have the needed resources (time, money) to return to school, coding boot camp attendance may be just right for you.
