Blackjack is a casino classic, a card game that has simple gameplay and rules that make for an engaging experience. For players looking to play a game online, live Blackjack offers a combination of digital interface with elements of live play.

But for anyone looking to try their hand at some Virgin Bet live online Blackjack it’s worth considering the etiquette involved in games with a live dealer. As you’re not just interacting with a computer program there are certain rules and standards that you’ll want to be aware of. The same goes if you’re planning on joining the table at a land-based casino.

The basics

When it comes to playing a game of live Blackjack it’s essential to understand at least the basic rules of the game before starting. Unlike a purely digital game, in live Blackjack both the dealer and other players would be left waiting if you were not already aware of what to do and how to play.

The basics of Blackjack are pretty simple, so it’s only polite to read up on them first.

Each player aims to get a hand value as close to 21 as possible without exceeding that and going bust. Hands are played against the dealer, so as long as a player’s hand is worth more than the dealer’s at the end of the game then they receive a payout.

Numbered cards are worth their face value, while kings, queens and jacks are all worth ten each. The ace is the wildcard, able to act as either a one or an 11 depending on which would benefit the hand more.

Playing a game of Blackjack

In a game of Blackjack each active player will be dealt two initial cards at the start of the game, with the dealer dealt one face up card and one face down. At this point each player gets to decide what they want to do in order, with play proceeding from left to right around the table.

Depending on the value of those two initial cards players have a variety of options. You can stand to keep your hand as it is or hit to take another card and increase your hand value. Additionally, players can split their hand if they have two initial cards of the same value or double down to double their wager for only one extra card.

Live Blackjack etiquette

With live Blackjack games you may join the table or load in while a game is already in play. In these cases, it’s proper etiquette to politely wait until the game or round has concluded before taking a seat. Never interrupt the action of a game in play.

Players should also avoid buying in or cashing out in the middle of an active hand, even if they happen to have gone bust already. Causing disruption to other players is never an acceptable move.

In live games it’s also important to take prompt actions during your turn, in order to keep the game moving at a steady pace. While you may need to think carefully before deciding on whether to hit or stand, don’t get distracted or drag your feet.

Respecting the dealer and other players, as well as their time, is a core element of playing live Blackjack. As long as you remain polite, don’t waste time, or interrupt the flow of a game then the game will flow smoothly for everyone.
