The Klein Bottle, which pioneered the Japanese virtual reality genre, was written by the legendary mystery writer duo Okajima, The protagonist of the novel is blown away by the sheer immersion of a game called Klein 2. The flowing sea of clouds, the violent sound waves, and the pounding heartbeat … all kinds of scenes that are also true and unreal make him fall into a perfect virtual situation, and at the same time, countless readers outside the plot are haunted by the exquisite game world.

AIGC, which stands at the forefront of the market, can satisfy readers’ imagination of this scene. What is AIGC? Artificial Intelligence Generated Content, A new way of creating content about artificial intelligence. It is like a tentacle monster from the future world, extending to writing, video, painting, code and other aspects at a thunderless speed, and the content involved in these, and the game development process has a natural fit, people have to pay attention to the bright spot in the field of AIGC enabled games.

  • 3D scene model

The fierce wave of intelligent drawing models such as Stable Diffusion and Midjourney has led more developers to enter the race track and further explore the use of AI to generate 3D designs.

Recently, Princeton University released a 3D scene program generator called Infinigen. It is based on Blender, creating a series of realistic and infinite environments through random mathematical rules. And even the fineness of the petal lines can be customized, which undoubtedly brings a surprise to the entire industry.

Now AI tools are proliferating, and fantasy worlds can be constructed with a single word. The infinite extension space breaks the limit of the screen scope, and the endless accurate data breaks the shackles of narrow thinking. It seems that AIGC really brings us one step closer to the meta-universe.

  • Natural language interaction

In traditional games, the interaction between players and game characters (NPCs) is controlled by programs and script settings, which is difficult to meet the needs of immersion. As a result, high interest and high interactivity are identified as a trend, and this expectation has been confirmed by previews of technologies such as ChatGPT and Quantum Engine.

In a technology study released by Stanford and Google, researchers connected chatGPT to game NPCs and provided them with initial settings such as basic information and life goals, while also incorporating memory streams to establish a memory system. As the time in the game progresses, these NPCs endowed with “persona” under the support of AI system have produced spontaneous social behaviors according to the logic of the story and role tasks. Independent thinking and independent decision-making based on memory make their behavior abilities close to real humans. However, this study also raised some questions about AI security.

  • Optimized performance

AIGC technology can optimize the performance of the game, and the integration of artificial intelligence and computer graphics technology can improve the running efficiency of the game and the fluency of the screen. In addition, game companies can detect player plug-in, fraud or other illegal behavior by analyzing data, and use AIGC for anti-cheating systems and security management, which can ensure the fairness and security of the game.

Today, the imagination of the “AIGC universe” is spreading explosively. In the process of accelerating the awakening and personification of AI, Heynext, as the largest casual game developer in Southeast Asia, perceived the superiority of AIGC and took the lead in building a team to occupy the market. Obviously, technical barriers did not hinder its excellent performance. It is reported that Heynext has invested nearly 10 million dollars in generative AI in the past two years, and developers’ hopes for future technology are obvious. In the development of the new game, the company chose to apply an intelligent NPC system to generate an open story world with real-time multiplayer natural language interaction. In addition, the Heynext team stated that they expect to establish a VR game distribution branch and are committed to incubating their own unique AI models. They aim to redefine real-time rendering and game engines with AI.

Cost reduction, efficiency increase and revenue increase are the benefits that generative AI brings to the market, but inevitable challenges and controversies

also ensued. However, once AIGC’s Pandora’s box is opened, the future has arrived. Fortunately, most developers have chosen to embrace it. A survey of 243 game companies launched by a16z, a well-known investment company in silicon stocks, shows that 87% of companies are using generative AI for creation, 99% of companies plan to use AI tools in the future, and developers are generally excited about the emergence of generative AI, looking forward to it leading the development of the era.

You can imagine that in the near future, when NPCs with self-awareness and situations infinitely close to reality appear in front of you, will you suspect that the world you live in is fake? Do you ever wonder if you’re just one of the virtual NPCS?

There is a line in the Klein Bottle: “Play is a proof of man’s superior intelligence.” Human beings are never short of wisdom, and let’s see how practitioners can make AIGC leave a strong mark in the history of gaming.
