4 Examples of Laser Treatment Across the Medical Industry

Laser treatments are medical procedures utilizing focused light. What makes them different from other light sources is that a laser, or “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation,” produces the light. It is tuned to particular wavelengths to focus on strong beams. Laser lights are very powerful, and they can cut through steel or even diamonds.

Lasers are also used in the medical industry. They allow surgeons to work better on smaller affected areas, reducing the risk of damaging other tissues around the area. As a result, when you undergo laser skin treatments, you have a better chance of experiencing less discomfort and pain, less swelling, and scars that other more traditional surgeries leave behind. Patients who undergo laser therapy also have to undergo several treatments.

Below are examples of laser treatments that are utilized in the medical industry.

Laser resurfacing

If your skin shows signs of aging, you suffer from acne problems, or you have discolorations, scars, and wrinkles from too much sun exposure, undergoing laser skin resurfacing could be your best alternative. This laser procedure is known to create healthier, glowing skin. With precision, the skin is removed layer by layer. From there, new skin cells develop during the healing process, enhancing the skin’s surface and leaving it tighter and more youthful. Laser skin resurfacing can be performed as a single procedure or together with other facial cosmetic surgeries.

Laser treatment to remove scars

Dermatologists utilize lasers to decrease the appearance of scars and reduce itching and pain. Additionally, laser treatments help prevent scars that typically form following surgical procedures as it assists in stimulating the development of healthy, fresh-looking skin. While it cannot remove a scar itself, the laser treatment keeps it from being visible or causing discomfort. There are various laser treatments for different scars, including acne scars, scars following surgeries, or those acquired after sustaining injuries.

Laser body contouring

Most people dream of having a perfectly shaped body, especially when they look and feel heavier. Laser body contouring aims to address the problem. Body contouring improves the appearance of the body’s shape to make it more attractive. The procedure focuses on removing fat and working on skin fixation. Body contouring is a term that also covers breast enhancement, tummy tuck, or thigh lifts. Laser body contouring is also non-invasive, and scarring does not occur. Traditional plastic surgery involves invasive methods such as skin incisions that take longer to heal and leave marks behind. With laser treatments, healing is faster, and traces of the procedure are erased.

Laser tattoo removal

Tattoos are pretty standard, with many people having at least one in a specific area of their bodies. However, there may come a time when they no longer want to have the tattoo and would like to have it removed. The laser tattoo removal procedure uses high-intensity light beams to destroy color pigments, (black is the easiest color to remove). Depending on how large or small your tattoo is and the color pigments used, you may have to go for more treatments.

With many laser treatment options available, you have an option for a non-invasive but highly effective procedure for various physical health or beauty concerns.
