Melissa Hargis, originally from Texas, had maxed out on her career teaching at a university. She was already teaching the highest number of classes possible while also not earning as much money as she would have liked. Hargis needed a change: a new path that would allow her to develop a broader range of skills and lead her to more opportunities. Hargis looked to switch gears and pursue a career in technology, but she did not want to spend four or more years earning a computer science degree.
