Melissa Hargis, originally from Texas, had maxed out on her career teaching at a university.  She was already teaching the highest number of classes possible while also not earning as much money as she would have liked.  Hargis needed a change:  a new path that would allow her to develop a broader range of skills and lead her to more opportunities.  Hargis looked to switch gears and pursue a career in technology, but she did not want to spend four or more years earning a computer science degree.  After some research, Hargis came across an exceptionally reputable coding bootcamp at Sabio.  At Sabio Coding Bootcamp, Hargis was able to receive a thorough education in tech and develop the skills and confidence needed to obtain her dream job as a software engineer.  Hargis started the program at Sabio seven years ago when her daughter was not even a year old, and now Hargis has worked her way up to a position as Senior Software Engineer at a company called Upstart.

Sabio offers a comprehensive curriculum in software engineering skills as well as tools you will need to impress recruiters, run your own team, and build your own business.  They teach full stack web development with the option of specializing in Node.js or .Net.  Sabio has various schedule options, preferred payments, and veteran funding which makes it a great program for everyone.  Sabio also has a very active global network of mentors and alumni who are entrepreneurs, product managers, and developers, and they are instrumental in assisting Sabio students.  Right away, Hargis knew she had made the right choice in joining the Sabio community.  She was learning hands-on coding skills with real career applications and was aided in acquiring a job as a software engineer.  Hargis says, “From day one, you are doing things that you would actually do in your job.  I know that now because I am on the job.”  She adds, “From the beginning, Sabio guides you with getting a job. That’s part of the program.”  At her first interview, Hargis was offered the job and started her first full stack software engineering job three weeks before graduating from Sabio.  Sabio has so much confidence in their program and students that Sabio even offers a deferment payment plan, which allows students to pay their tuition after they get a job.  Graduates of Sabio have obtained positions at some prestigious companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Tesla.

Sabio also offers courses remotely, so their curriculum is more accessible for more people.  Sabio aims to help students reach their potential in technology whether they are right out of high school or looking to switch career paths.  Sabio wants to empower its students to learn how to code and solve problems and to have the confidence to impress employers.  As a software engineer, you can work remotely, which allows you to live where you want and also make a substantial amount of money.  Co-Founder and CEO of Sabio, Liliana Monge, says, “We are excited to see Melissa Hargis thrive in tech for years post graduating from Sabio Coding Bootcamp. Her success story shows how someone can be exceptionally successful in tech without a computer science degree.”  She adds, “Women that are looking for economic advancement should give tech a look as it holds the opportunity for financial independence.”

Currently, Hargis is living in a glamourous, gorgeous house on the beach in Hawaii.  Her office is now a paradise with breathtaking views of the ocean, and in her job, she has the flexibility to work on what interests her.  Hargis has been living her best life in beautiful Hawaii with her daughter and could not be happier.  Hargis is exceptionally grateful for Sabio’s program and the terrific instruction she received there.
