PCR Testing In London: What Are The New Rules For Travellers?

For visitors coming from other nations or countries, PCR testing is once again applicable for arrivals into the UK. Travellers arriving at their destination in London must take a London PCR test, usually within the first 2 days of arrival. The government has tightened restrictions again in reaction to the spread of the omicron variant of coronavirus, only weeks after easing international travel requirements to enable cheaper and quicker lateral flow (antigen) testing.

Due to concerns about the Omicron variant, visitors to the UK must take a test before leaving and another after they arrive. Here, let’s take a closer look at the new guidelines for travellers.

What Are The New Rules For Travellers?

What you must do, including a Covid PCR test, will depend on whether you qualify as completely vaccinated under the criteria for travel to England. If you’ve been in a red-list nation or country in the ten days leading up to your arrival in England, the regulations are different. Whether you are entirely vaccinated or not, the red list regulations apply.

Following the discovery of two new potentially more contagious omicron coronavirus cases, the UK tightened mask-wearing laws and enhanced international arrival testing. At the same time, governments worldwide ramped up their security.

PCR Testing Returns

As a result, there are growing concerns that the pandemic and associated lockdown restrictions may last much longer than anticipated, especially given suspicions that the recently discovered new strain would be more vaccine-resistant.

Thus, everyone coming to England on the second day and arriving in London would be required to undergo a mandatory London PCR test for COVID-19. Other travellers for UK cities would also be forced to self-isolate until the test results were negative. Besides, if a person tests positive for the omicron strain, their close contacts must self-isolate for ten days regardless of vaccination status.

Those who have been fully immunised must schedule a PCR test before arriving. You’ll need to hire a private test provider for overseas travel instead of completing an NHS exam.

Do These Rules Apply To All UK Nations, And How Low Will It Last?

In Scotland, children under 11 are exempt from doing the PCR test. Nicola Sturgeon and Mark Drakeford, the first ministers of Scotland and Wales, requested harsher travel controls, including obligatory self-isolation for all newcomers to the UK for eight days and a London PCR test and to other nations at the conclusion. To respond to how long it will last, they will evaluate these measures in three weeks.

With fears of another lockdown around Christmas time, the government is urging people to ensure that they get tested when travelling, or if they come into contact with anyone carrying the virus, or if they display symptoms of Covid.
