“It’s not what you’ve got, it’s how you use it”. There are people blessed with fortune from birth who go on to squander it all and there are those who are essentially born with nothing and live to gain it all. King Comeback is one of the latter, having started with nothing, gaining it all, then losing it, just to have to get it all back again.
Born Cameron Whigham in Atlanta Georgia, King Comeback has a rich background involving music. He graduated from Stone Mountain H.S. where he played percussion and served as drum major his senior year. Along with his love for percussion, came his innate ability to write lyrics. This was discovered when he was 11, his influences being No Limit, Cash Money, Busta Rhymes, Bone Thugs ‘n Harmony, and battle rap culture.
As he developed, so did his writing skills and by 16 he was writing and recording songs with his friends, sometimes skipping school to do so. Despite ditching class, he was later accepted into Tuskegee University where ultimately got kicked out. “I was too busy getting money and girls to really focus in class and appreciate the opportunity I had wasted,” he said. It was there the now rapper began selling drugs (trapping) to his fellow classmates and acquaintances he met around town.
This activity continued after he got kicked out as he used some of his money to get back into school in 2010. His trapping continued and had made quite a name for himself on the Eastside of Atlanta until 2012 when he was shot and paralyzed from the waist down. This was during a robbery attempted by former acquaintances. Since then he’s finished school and started his rap career and two companies. He now works as a freelance audio engineer and graphic designer through his company Track Blazers Entertainment which doubles as his own record label. It is through the same company he publishes his music; a company he runs from home.
Currently he has 4 songs (3 singles,1 freestyle) available on all digital platforms which have a combined total of a little over 100,000 streams overall. His Youtube following is growing with a modest 1 thousand followers but based on what I’ve seen, those numbers are bound to grow tremendously. King Comeback is a beast when it comes to connecting with people and it is only a matter of time until he makes his rounds to television, or mobile phone screen, near you. He is releasing his mixtape “The DEMOnstration” on the 1st of August. It will consist of freestyles over some of the day’s hottest tracks.
Great talent, great story, and great potential. He tells us what it was like beginning his rap career and having no support or any real money to record. “I had used one of my refund checks to build my home studio but I had no engineer and those became expensive. To cut costs I ended up learning how to mix and master myself and boy did those songs sound horrible” he laughed. “Over time,” he added, “I improved and now I work for several studios around the city. My songs get played at clubs and my mix has been approved and even complimented by a number of artists. All I had was me (my story), some cheap studio equipment, and a bunch of YouTube Videos to learn from, but It’s not what you’ve got, it’s how you use it.”
