Walk around your neighborhood
In the spring Sacramento becomes alive. On your daily walks around the block, you can experience all the crazy and beautiful things that spring has to offer in Sacramento. There are new animals to observe, amazing smells to sniff out, and tons of creatures out scurrying about on their own journeys.
Explore new trails on a mountain bike
Mountain biking and spring are two of our favorite things. A bike ride through the trails in Sacramento will take you down to Granite Bay, Sierra College, or any other number of spots in the area. Springtime is a great time to mountain bike because the weather is much cooler than during the peak of summer. This allows you to go on longer rides to new areas or go further into the trails and work on your downhill technique.
Morning kayak trip
Springtime is an excellent time for a good morning kayak trip. Whether you go out by yourself or with a group, this is an amazing way to spend a Thursday morning (or any other day of the week). A morning kayak trip will give you the chance to see all kinds of fish, birds, and other sea life in the Sacramento Delta and beyond.
While you’re kayaking, make sure you take your binoculars and camera to get some wonderful shots of the wildlife that you see.

Bird Watching at the California Wetlands Education Center (CWEC) at Cosumnes River College (CRC)
This site is rich with diversity and much of it has never been surveyed. CWEC also provides an introduction to wetland ecology, bird identification and behavior observation, wetlands restoration, riparian habitats, and how humans affect these areas. There are more than 100 species that have been identified at the CWEC. The Nature Conservancy has identified the Sacramento Delta as being one of the most important sites in North America for breeding and migrating birds.
Stargazing at Cosumnes River College Observatory
There are two observing stations located on the campus of Cosumnes River College, one on each end of campus. The College Observatory is located in the observatory dome next to room 233 and features a Fully Equipped 80mm refractor telescope and a 60mm Cassegrain reflector telescope. The observatory is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and is open on Saturday evenings too from April to December for nighttime viewing with the telescope only. The College Observatory is located at CRC’s main campus at 3000 Campus Rd, Sacramento, CA 95825

The Planet Walk at the City of Folsom is one of the most picturesque and beautiful places in the Sacramento Valley. A boardwalk runs along the base of a hill area that looks out over the Sacramento River, offering you a spectacular view of both downtown Folsom and Lake Natoma. The temperature rises as you walk closer to the river, so be careful not to step into it!
