How to Make the Most of Your Mornings

Reading Time: 7 mins read

Have you ever noticed how your mornings set the tone for the day? If you wake up late, cranky, and stressed, everything seems to exacerbate what you’re going through. You sleep through the alarm, the kids are arguing over cereal, the baby throws food all over your work clothes, there’s an accident on the highway, the staff meeting is less than pleasing, and the list continues. By the time you make it home, you’re so stressed out that you order takeout and head straight to bed, dreading what the morning will bring.

Though this type of morning seems familiar to most women, it doesn’t have to be this way. While you may not have been able to control many of the events that took place throughout the day, you can make things more manageable. All it takes is a new outlook on how you start your day. Continue reading to learn more.

Wake Up Early

Whether you’re a morning person or not, waking up early enables you to focus on what matters and set the tone before you step outside and into your routines. Tweaking your sleep habits like different sheets, background noise, or maybe a new pillow will make your sleep deeper and your early wake ups easier. Sure a comfy bed is hard to get out of, but it’s a lot easier when your coming off 8 deep hours of sleep each night. So, set the alarm for a reasonable time to have you up at least an hour before the rest of the household. If you tend to hit the snooze button, try setting your alarm for an earlier time so you can hit it a few times or place your phone in an area where you have to get out of bed to turn it off.

A Mind of Gratitude

Waking up with a to-do list or a bunch of stress on your mind ruins your mornings. So, after stretching and getting out of bed, try to have a sense of gratitude. Think about things you’re grateful for and say them out loud. You could be happy that you and your family woke up or that you have a roof over your head and food to eat. This positive thinking will help keep you centered throughout the day.

Eat A Well-Balanced Meal

If your breakfast consists of a piece of toast and half a cup of orange juice before running out the door, you’re doing yourself a massive injustice. Your body needs fuel from the vitamins, nutrients, and minerals you consume to get through each day. So, instead of skipping meals or eating bits and pieces of things, take the time to enjoy a well-balanced meal. Turn on the coffee pot for a fresh batch of regular or decaf coffee, scramble some eggs, grill a few pieces of bacon, cut some fruit, and sit at the breakfast table and enjoy. If you’re not much of a heavy eater in the morning, you can also consider having a breakfast smoothie.

Develop a Beauty Routine

How you look plays a significant role in how you feel. If you walk out of the house in a wrinkled suit, some outdated shoes, and your hair in a messy bun, it lowers your confidence. Make the most of your mornings by investing time to complete your beauty routines. Take a nice shower, moisturize your body with lotion, complete your skincare routine, get dressed, style your hair, and apply your makeup before heading out for work or to run errands.

Breathe

The final bit of advice for making the most of your mornings is to breathe. Take 5-10 minutes in the morning to center your thoughts. Find a peaceful area in your home with a nice view of nature and just close your eyes and take some deep breaths in and out. As you exhale, allow all negative thoughts, worries, and fears to leave your mind.

Mornings can be rough – if you let them. However, a chaotic morning can quickly translate into a hectic day. The best way to find balance and improve your physical and emotional well-being is to change your perspective. Wake up early, have a mind of gratitude, eat a well-balanced meal, complete your beauty routines, and meditate each day before you leave home and see what a difference it makes.
