Entrepreneurship isn’t easy. It often requires long hours, plenty of ups and downs, and can take time to be successful. Sure, there are always a few brands that take off, but perseverance is essential for most business owners. Those that never give up are usually the most successful in the end.

Keep Your Focus

Canadian entrepreneur, Darren Cabral, will be the first to tell you that it takes determination and hard work to build your own brand. He’s been focused on his goals since 2014 when he launched his first business Toronto Skycam, to 2016 when he started his marketing agency Suits Social.

It’s easier to keep your focus when you’re doing something you love. Darren loves social media marketing and is genuinely passionate about advertising in general. Although he didn’t know much about it in 2014, he learned everything he could to build a lucrative brand.

In 2016, he started his second business, Suits Social. Success didn’t come easily or fast. It took him six months to land his first client. By the end of the first year in business, he was shocked and dismayed to see he only earned $18,000. He made more when he was an 18-year-old plumber working in Toronto housing developments.

His business began to pick up. At about the same time, Darren received an incredible offer from another marketing firm. A cushy position with a six-figure salary. He turned it down.

Don’t Stop Working Towards Your Goals

Would Darren regret his decision? Never. Three years later and everything’s changed. Suits Social grew by 2700%. His social media marketing company is busier than ever. The success comes from one strategic area of advertising—social media. He began with Facebook and Instagram, but also handles marketing needs for YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Darren admits he spends 90 percent of his time focused on business and his clients’ advertising needs. The specific advertising spaces fascinate him, and he enjoys building memorable and profitable campaigns for a variety of brands. The company that took six months to sign its first customer has accounts with brands in Canada and throughout the world. Darren didn’t give up, and he found success.

Follow a Simple Philosophy

So what is the one philosophy that Darren preaches to his employees and at business conferences? Help make clients earn more revenue from their services than they pay for them. Happy customers are lifelong business partners.

Grow with Your Partners

Everything Darren does is with his customers in mind. Again, he sees happy customers as business partners. By focusing on client returns, and ensuring all his clients are making money with every campaign, Darren’s average client retention period is over 24 months and climbing.

Follow Darren’s path. Focus on your business. Work to keep customers happy. Never stop learning. And keep building your company until you’re successful.
