Pacific Northwest is a horticultural paradise. All the citric crops- lime, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, orange and kumquat are the best choices for the people looking to grow their own garden. Lime and Lemons are available in the market in dwarf sizes fit for home gardens. They can even be grown in containers and are really attractive house plants.

It is great if you can grow a lemon plant in containers as then you will have portable plants so it will be easier to pick and drop and move it around the house depending on the weather conditions and sun positions. One needs to remember though that house plants of lime and lemon only live for five to six months out of the year if there isn’t heated greenhouse present.

Location is the key to the flourishing plant. They need to be kept where they will receive maximum sunlight. A large south- to southwest-facing window is the best. Citrus plants need higher humidity level compared to other house plants. You would also need to carry out some pruning of your citrus plant in order to make its life better. And for that, you can follow some tips to prune a lemon tree instead of taking chances by your own. To remove any bugs just add a diluted acid-loving fertilizer. It will also keep it looking green.

In late April or early May, they can be kept in the garden or patio and the use of fertilizer can be increased to stop bug infection. But refrain from direct harsh sunlight as that will burn the plant. The tree can be pruned at anytime and as many time it doesn’t affect its fruits. The right amount of sunlight will give the plants, the sweetest smelling flowers and subsequently fruits but do not expect huge harvests. A house plant is a house plant after all.
