Dublin, Ireland – A team of volunteers took an initiative to clean river Liffey while kayaking down the river. The team that will pick up rubbish has been launched in the river. GreenKayak, a Danish non-government organization, founded in 2017 by Tobias Weber-Andersen, offers a free kayak riding in exchange for cleaning river Liffey.

The initiative is a first Irish venture in partnership with Dublin’s city kayaking. It is aimed to collect plastic from the river Liffey before it reaches the Irish sea. All types of kayaks were fitted with bin and necessary tools to grab rubbish from the river. All the kayaks were weighed after docking to recycle the waste. Volunteers shared their experience on social media to promote the initiative among more people.

Earlier Mr. Tobias Weber-Anderson was operating his own business of kayak rental in Copenhagen harbor. He realized and decided to do something with the amount of rubbish floating on the river Liffey. He is very happy in doing something good with the environment by cleaning river Liffey.

Anderson said, “It means that we will have trash lifted from the water in Dublin, and that’s really important as the canals are connected to the sea and we need to get the rubbish before it reaches the ocean. Here in Dublin, the water looks clean, but when you look in the dead ends and the corners there’s a lot of trash. I don’t think it is more trash than Copenhagen but it’s about the same.”

GreenKyak has started such initiative in seven other cities of Denmark, Norway and Germany.
