In today’s competitive job market, having a solid online presence is more important than ever. One of the most powerful tools for professionals is LinkedIn, a platform that allows you to showcase your skills and connect with potential employers or clients. However, creating a compelling LinkedIn profile can be daunting, especially if you’re unsure how to present yourself effectively. That’s where professional LinkedIn profile writers come in. These experts can help you craft a profile highlighting your unique strengths and making you stand out from the crowd. In this age of digital networking, investing in a professional LinkedIn profile writer can be a game-changer for your career.

It’s great for individuals and businesses alike. Take a look at the use cases:

  • People who have just graduated from university and are looking for a job can connect with their colleagues, professors, recruiters, and representatives of companies they would like to work for.
  • Skilled workers can connect with colleagues, recruiters, and hiring managers to find new and better jobs in their field.
  • Hiring managers can connect with recruiters to find talented employees or directly with those employees.
  • Companies can create professional networks that include the CEO, managers, recruitment team, recruiters, current and former employees, and potential employees.

No matter where you are in the corporate world or what stage of professional development you are in, you can use LinkedIn.

Unfortunately, it’s very easy to neglect your LinkedIn profile, especially while you’re comfortable working or your company has a functional and efficient hiring process. When it comes time to use the platform, it can be like digging up a relic from the last century, a digital archaeological dig that requires tons of restoration work to make your profile functional again.

Worse, you need to know how LinkedIn works to optimise your profile. You need to know how the site functions and how people use it to focus on the right things. There’s nothing worse than spending hours of effort on parts of your profile that only some people care about.

So it’s not surprising that some companies offer LinkedIn modification services. Want to improve your profile to help you find a new job? Want to talk to recruiters and hiring managers to see what opportunities are out there? Need to improve your company profile to attract the best and brightest? A LinkedIn update is just what the doctor ordered.

When it comes to something important to your future, you want to ensure you’re getting the best LinkedIn to revamp. So before you sign a contract or send a payment, here are twelve things to consider or ask a potential profile writer.

Know Why You Need a Makeover

Before looking for LinkedIn profile services or a professional LinkedIn profile writer, it’s essential to identify your specific goals for using the platform. It’s not enough to know that it’s useful for professionals or job seekers.

Consider the specific purpose you want your LinkedIn profile to serve, such as:

  • Is your profile outdated and in need of a complete overhaul?
  • Have you neglected your profile and need a comprehensive review to identify necessary updates?
  • Do you want to attract more clients to your business?
  • Are you seeking potential employees for a particular position in your company?
  • Are you looking for a new job where your skills are better utilised than in your current role?

Knowing your specific goals will help you better understand the type of LinkedIn profile service or writer that can best help you achieve them.

Know why you need the upgrade.

LinkedIn has an incredible number of additional features that both individuals and companies can use in their profiles. For example, individuals can add things like certifications, licenses, and achievements beyond normal work accomplishments.

Businesses get a head start. Many advanced business features can be used if you know how and when to apply them. A makeup expert should be able to implement them for you, but you need to know they exist to ask for them.

One of the most important parts of LinkedIn is marketing. A critical component of marketing is knowing who your target audience is. Even on LinkedIn, you need to know who you’re trying to target with your profile sections and content. As a company, it could be potential customers, employees, business partners, networking opportunities, or all of the above. As an individual, it could be hiring managers, recruiters, company profiles, etc.

The key question to ask is whether your LinkedIn updater knows how to identify potential target audiences and how to use keywords to address these specific types of people or business accounts.

Ask About Ongoing Edits and Updates

LinkedIn is only as valuable as your profile makes it. Over time, your profile degrades. How often does it need to be updated? How often are there changes, such as in your open roles, your leadership team, the services you offer, or even just general information about your company?

You need to keep your LinkedIn profile up to date, but if you hire an expert to update it, how do you then keep it up to date at the same level of quality? You can either learn what’s important and keep it as up-to-date as possible, or your profile author can update it for you. Does your LinkedIn profile author offer constant updates? If so, for how long, and are they paid extra? These are important questions to know before you invest in their rewrites.

Do They Handle Additional Services Like Reputation Management?

Reconstructing LinkedIn can help you update your profile and data, but more is needed to help rebuild your reputation. Reputation management is a huge part of modern Internet marketing, recruitment and success. Maintaining a LinkedIn profile is part of that process. So a natural question arises: can your LinkedIn author handle reputation management, or will they outsource it to another company?

We’ve found that if your author is primarily a LinkedIn author, they probably won’t handle reputation issues. On the other hand, if they are a reputation management company and provide LinkedIn improvement services, they will be much more aware of reputation issues. They can bundle services together or offer reputation management in the process.

Do They Have Satisfied Clients as Examples?

Whenever you hire someone to provide services, you should look at their portfolio of successful work. Artists have portfolios of work they have done. Writers have portfolios of works they have written. Scholars have quotations. A LinkedIn writer should have a list of past clients whose profiles are updated and effective.

A perfect LinkedIn writer will have a list of clients they can brag about, but more importantly, they will have data showing what those changes have done for a particular person or business. Did they increase the number of customers, clients, hires or profits, and if so, how much? This is useful data, and if the reporter can’t provide it, they may not be the person you should hire.

Have Your Brand Assets Ready to Go

It’s not a question as a general tip: Have your brand assets on hand and ready to go. Your marketing team already has a package of brand assets, so it shouldn’t be difficult to have files on hand for high-quality versions of your logo or other brand assets. Having all of these assets will also help when your LinkedIn writer needs to create new content using them; they won’t have to ask for these assets; they’ll already have them on hand.

That’s it: twelve tips and questions you can use as a starting point for discussions with LinkedIn profile companies. If you lay the groundwork, ask the right questions and choose the right author, you can improve your effectiveness on LinkedIn. It’s an amazingly effective social network when used correctly; it’s just that the millions of accounts of people who log on only once a year are cluttering it up. Don’t be one of them, use the network appropriately and reap the benefits.
