Crypto and Web3 events often supply a mixed bag when it comes to attendees. It’s quite
exciting, because you never know whether you’ll be surrounded by talented developers, hungry investors, eager self-promoters, or all of the above. The June 2024 Blockchain Expo was no different, providing a veritable rainbow of expertises and vocations in the attendee list as well as on stage. Topics throughout the weekend included blockchain in aerospace, attracting investors for projects built on Solana, how crypto helps marginalized communities, the future of digital assets, AI, and DeFi.
Renowned crypto journalist Victoria Chynoweth was tasked with the honor of guiding and entertaining the crowd between panels as the event’s Chairperson and MC. A crypto OG who has written for Forbes, Cointelegraph, and Rolling Stone, Chynoweth is a Wall Street Journal bestselling author and TEDx speaker who loves speaking and writing about the crypto community.
Kicking Off the Weekend
The Blockchain Expo was a jam-packed, two-day event filled with insightful presentations and engaging discussions about what is on the cutting-edge of Web3 technology. Day one kicked off with Chynoweth’s welcome and opening remarks, setting the stage for a series of engaging panels and talks that delved into blockchain’s impact on various sectors.
“We all come to these conferences because we want to be around like-minded people,” Chynoweth said in her opening remarks. “We’re here today because we’ve made it through [ups and downs] and we believe in this technology, and where it is going.”
The audience — filled with Bitcoin HODLers, Solana builders, and all manner of entrepreneurs — was enthusiastic, playing along with her exercises and questions as Chynoweth warmed up the stage.
“There were people with all sorts of expertise of varying degrees at the Expo,” Chynoweth shared after the event. “I was so delightfully surprised to see so many experts in the audience. I felt that because the audience was of such a high caliber, the panelists had the freedom to talk about highly-complex subjects in a way that didn’t bore or insult the audience by dumbing it down for them.”
Perks of the Blockchain Expo
After every panel over the two-day event, audience members were encouraged to ask questions of the panelists right there in the room.
“Everyone wanted to hear high level expertise about the panel topics, and I’m happy to say that the panelists delivered,” Chynoweth shared. “The audience loved it and were very engaged, asking amazing questions during the Q&A portion. It was so wonderful to feel the energy in the room. Those people knew what they were talking about, and were there purely to learn from each other. The audience’s questions were amazing, and their level of participation was perfect. There were so many questions that I was running all around the room trying to get them all asked and answered!”
According to her, there were even some panelists who had hour-long waits to speak with them after the panel.
“It was an honor to facilitate such high-level conversations about what the audience truly cares about,” Chynoweth said.
One of the standout moments was the panel on “Driving Blockchain for Enterprise Growth,” where experts from Oracle and Johnson & Johnson discussed how blockchain integration can streamline operations and reduce costs. The Expo also featured fascinating discourse around real-world assets (RWAs).
Tokenizing Real-World Assets Panel
Chynoweth moderated the panel “Tokenizing Real-World Assets,” featuring Shy Datika, CEO of INX; Tim Duong, CEO & Co-Founder of Realcoin; Kevin Soltani, Founder of GIMA Group; and Scott Bourke, DePIN & Web3 Growth Lead at Peaq.
Blockchain technology is still advancing, and the notion of tokenizing RWAs is becoming popular. The panel featured specialists in diverse industries, discussing the possibilities and obstacles tokenizing assets like real estate, art, and commodities.
“The panel on RWAs had a varied array of panelists, which made it exciting and beneficial to the audience members,” Chynoweth reflected. “We talked about both American and international RWAs, and what that means for investors today. It was my pleasure to moderate such a thought-provoking panel.
“In terms of being the Master of Ceremonies, it was fabulous to have such an engaged audience that really listened to my introductions to each of the panels and speakers. I could tell that they were actively taking notes and interested in learning something. They cared about what was being presented to them. It was my honor to be able to facilitate wonderful communications between the knowledgeable speakers and the intentional audience in a beautiful way.”
