“Practical Persuasion” recently hit the bestseller list, which was an amazing accomplishment. What has achieving this kind of success been like for you.
Achieving the success of having a bestselling book has been a humbling experience to say the least. I never aspired to be a bestseller. I enjoyed writing this book and have always considered it a labor of love. I do have to say just the label “Bestselling Author” was an immediate ego trip in my own mind. After it sunk in and I had time to digest it, I became very humbled and I am grateful for all of those people who have supported me by purchasing the book thus making it a bestseller on Amazon.
You clearly have a love for the art of persuasion and have studied neuro-linguistic programming for a very long time. What originally drew you to learn more about this art, and then share it with others?
Before I was introduced to the art of persuasion and NLP I was intrigued with the psychology of sales and marketing. Once I read ” Power Persuasion” and learned about the art of persuasion. I was hooked. Throughout my studies I came across Neuro Linguistic Programing. I read every book I can find on the subject. Then I researched how & who I could learn NLP by a master practitioner in a one on one setting so that it would really resonate with me and I could get the most out of the education.
When I found Dr. George Bein I knew I hit gold and man was I right! He`s probably the most decorated and celebrated hypnotherapist in the world. Through my teachings with him I learned to love this art of communication and realized how tightly entwined NLP is with persuasion. So I’ve done my fair share of research and I’ve read countless books on Sales, Advertising, Marketing, Persuasion, Hypnosis, NLP and everything else that had any connection to do with the psychology of persuasion and how people are persuaded in general. I always thought that I should put all of these techniques together in one place. Hence was the birth of “Practical Persuasion”.
When readers finish this breakout book, what do you hope they take away with them into their day-to-day lives?
I hope that when readers finish this book, they walk away with the tools they need to gain compliance in situations where prior experiences would have left them vulnerable to others. Whether it be dealing with their family, negotiating with a car salesman or simply making the sale and closing their next big deal. The techniques I teach in the book aren`t 100% fool proof. They are meant to give the reader an advantage in trying to persuade and to improve their chances of having others comply with their needs.
While writing Practical Persuasion” what was the biggest challenge you overcame, and conversely what was your greatest success?
I would have to say the biggest challenge I had while writing this book was condensing all of the techniques I knew about down to a manageable amount to which I was able to elaborate on. I would have to say my greatest success in writing Practical Persuasion was meeting all of the interesting people I had the pleasure of interviewing for the book.
Anyone who has read this book is surely now a fan of your work, so you have another project or book you can tell us about?
I do not have any current projects on the immediate horizon but that does not mean that you have heard the last from me. I`m sure I`ll put out another book in the future. I just haven’t started it yet. I`ll keep you posted…
