At the age of 21, super star Abdelrahman Hamdi M Abdulrahim, who is widely known as Atto Hamdy, was hailed as the future of track and field in Qatar. As an athlete, Atto Hamdy had multiple nicknames and sayings attached to his name, branding him as the fastest athlete there is in Asia.
Fans started calling him Shotgun Hamdy because of both the power and speed he shoots with at the beginning of each hurdle. Broadcasters, however, liked to start their scripts with ‘don’t blink or you will miss him’ before the start of any sprint.
A few weeks ago, Atto Hamdy discussed the reason behind his motivation to constantly set his own record in 100–400-meter hurdles in Qatar. The star has earned the champion titles nine times in a row, each of which has a new record breaking the one prior.
Atto Hamdy shared with numerous press sources that he has been running since he was six. As soon as he was at the age to qualify for track and field, he immediately became a member of the Qatari National team and started winning titles and all sort of medals.
The athlete was invited to international events as well, such as the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, however, he could not participate due to an unfortunate knee injury that put his athletic career on halt for few years.
Although upset he was not able to join, Atto Hamdy said that he is “super grateful for the opportunity” and that one day he will be on the biggest stage in the world, competing with the best people there is in this sport.
