Some people have childhood dreams that they soon let go of or move on from. But not Bothagry Botha. This singer and producer was interested in music from a young age and pursued his dreams.
Bothagry Botha was born in Panama. When he was five years old, he and his parents migrated to Miami, Florida. Growing up in such a vibrant city with a thriving music and arts scene influenced Bothagry. He shares, “I was surrounded by such beautiful art, music that made you feel like dancing, and people with amazing energy. All of that inspired me to explore music and find a connection with my culture and heritage.”
Upon graduating high school, Bothagry Botha studied business with a concentration in the music industry at Miami Dade College. He thought it was a solid path for him, but soon Bothagry realized that his true passion lay in making music. “Music lit a fire within me. And business school, even with a music industry focus, was not enough for me. So I went looking for internships at recording studios and went from there,” the singer shares. He obtained an internship at Midnight Blue Studio, where he got to work closely with several artists. He eventually dropped out of college to focus on producing his own music.
While Bothagry Botha was a music intern, he became immersed in the process of bringing a song to life. The artists, producers, and sound engineers he worked with showed him the ropes and helped Bothagry understand what it takes to make a great song. “Getting this internship was life-changing,” the singer shares, “I learned so much. And it put me right in the thick of things. Seeing the creative process made me appreciate music even more.”
His first internship paved the way for many opportunities. He has worked with Arcangel, Don Dinero, and Alarabeya’G as an engineer and co-producer. After this internship, Bothagry got signed with Miami-based Latin record label Gods Plan Records. During Bothagry’s time at this company, he also mixed and co-produced Migz’s album Orgulloso De Ti.
Currently, Bothagry is working as an independent agent with MC Flekz for two years. “I am having the best time of my life producing music with MC Flekz,” Bothagry Botha shares.
He is currently working on his new LP, “Llegaron Los Daddy’s” with @mcflekz. Before, he worked with Wassap Babe on a track titled “Flores,” which can be seen and heard on YouTube. The video was produced by @Cinegods, with artwork and content material created from scratch by @rovasgrafico and @r0j0_panama. Bothagry is distributed by Ditto.
The singer-producer gets to collaborate with several independent artists from Miami. “Working with these artists is very inspiring. I love how we get to celebrate Latin dance and reggae music with our collaboration,” Bothagry shares.
Culture and heritage played a massive part in shaping Bothagry Botha’s passion for music. “I have Latin and Afro heritage. I am lucky to live in a place where these cultures are celebrated. I started my career in music to celebrate my heritage and share it with the world,” Bothagry shares. His music makes listeners want to dance. These are the types of songs people would like to play to have a good time. Each beat and rhythm is a celebration of life and connection.
