The man behind the business

Alex Lugo is a 30-year-old entrepreneur who was born in the Bronx, New York and raised in Puerto Rico. His entrepreneurial spirit was born out of the desire to be more present with his family while educating as many people as possible.

His 12 years in the Marine Corps lent to missed birthdays and pressure on his family. This inspired him to be a trader once he got out of the military. His success as a trader led others to join him. He recalls how “all of the sudden, I became an entrepreneur and that’s when I took off.”

For the sake of financial literacy

Alex started his business to educate people on money management. Lugo noticed that “a lot of us know how to make money. A lot of us don’t know how to manage our money, and that’s a huge problem that I see.” Alex and his team of leaders at OBG are working to solve that very problem. They have multiple partnerships with industry professionals across the nation to teach young kids and adults the importance of financial literacy.

Overcoming challenges

Lugo says that one of the biggest challenges in growing his business is people believing it is a scam. In the beginning, he didn’t blame people for being skeptical because “there are people out there just scamming people.” He stood behind his vision, knowing his integrity would pay off.

It certainly did pay off. Now, with thousands of successful clients, his record speaks for itself. People see the results that Alex and his team achieve and want the same for themselves. He now has almost 1,700 people in his organization “changing the narrative.”

Alex reflects, “everything I faced in the beginning is kind of just no longer there. But honestly, we are in a way changing how people look at us in the industry.” Alex’s story shows how with vision, commitment, and integrity, you can turn from the black sheep to the trojan horse in your industry.

Advice for aspiring entrepreneurs

We asked Alex Lugo for three pieces of advice that he would give to an aspiring entrepreneur. Here is what he said.

Block the outside noise

“As an entrepreneur, you’re going against the grain,” Alex acknowledges. He had his own experiences breaking cultural and societal norms in pursuit of something greater. He advises other entrepreneurs to “focus on the bigger objective” and “stay locked in.”

Be consistent

Alex knows firsthand that “being an entrepreneur is really not easy.” Nothing is guaranteed, and you may not always see the results you were hoping for. However, you can control your own consistency and commitment to your goal. When in doubt, “remain consistent,” Alex says.

Do right by people

Lastly, Alex advocates for selflessness as an entrepreneur. “Don’t make it about yourself,” he advises. He is a strong believer that being there for people and sacrificing for people who may not deserve it “will always come back full circle 10 times.”
