Why are millennials enamored with tattoos?

Since the beginning, tattoos have always piqued the interest of many individuals and naturally, gained a quick following over the years. Tattooing is a technique that dates back to the Neolithic era and native tribes. It was first used for various purposes, including during religious rites and as a rite of passage. While the origin of tattoos is unknown, Dr. David Lane, an assistant professor at Illinois State University and an expert in the field, estimates that tattooing has existed for at least 5000 years. The oldest human bones that we have found have tattoos, he claims.

Today, social acceptability has contributed to the tattooing industry’s sluggish but steady expansion. The sky’s the limit for people who want their bodies to be a canvas, from the skill behind today’s top tattoo artists to the ink and the tools that make their artistry feasible. It does appear that millennials are more enamored with tattoos than any other demographic of popular consumers. Plus, you can even find tattoos on many people who are not previously associated with most previously common tattoo enamored people like ex-convicts, soldiers, sailors, and native tribes.

Models for high fashion catwalk shows and Instagram are frequently covered with tiny, artistic tattoos. What could have led to the tattoo industry becoming one of the fastest-growing with a sizable young clientele? Famed American tattoo artist Megan Massacre claims that a change in public opinion regarding tattoos took place at the same time as reality television programs like TLC’s 2005 smash Miami Ink, which normalized and dramatized the once-subversive experience of getting tattooed, were broadcast.

When tattoos were featured in the media, a shift occurred—instead of being associated with social outcasts, tattoos became desired, calm, and sexy. Additionally, as Massacre points out, the rise in the number of tattooed athletes and musicians—think Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, and Ed Sheeran—has undoubtedly been beneficial. These reasons caused a shift in perception that had a cascading effect that led to a rise in tattoo acceptance observed in cities worldwide. However, there are other work elements besides TV and celebrity impact.

Tattoos have held great significance for thousands of years, yet their worth has not changed. Instead, newer generations are discovering new ways to get tattoos and, in the process, changing the perception of tattooed skin. Many factors contribute to millennials’ seeming en masse visitation of tattoo parlors. It seems that tattoos go deeper than the surface.  Although tattoo styles and designs are constantly changing, some fads are more popular among millennials. “The new tattoo styles that have gained popularity in recent years include single needle and fine line work, geometric and watercolor designs, and micro (tiny) tattoos. It makes one wonder – are millennials simply on a brief tattoo high, or will the frenzy eventually quiet down? and will Generation Z, the upcoming generation of young people, share their predecessors’ enthusiasm for tattoos?

Famous or not, it all boils down to getting a tattoo and taking care of it. Once you are confident that you have taken all necessary precautions to prevent infections during the healing time of your tattoo, you should focus on long-term maintenance. The time you spent looking for the ideal tattoo design and the most skilled artist to produce it should also never be forgotten.

So consider asking Saniderm Medical, LLC any other questions regarding tattoo aftercare. This well-known medical-grade company creates items of the highest caliber for treating skin damage caused by tattoo procedures. Their trademark product, medical-grade adhesive bandages, ensures that outside contaminants won’t enter the tattoo, allowing the wound to heal more rapidly and offering their customers a great deal of comfort and security. You will also find among their many products are antimicrobial soaps, skin balms, sticky bandages, needle glides, everyday lotions, and other things.

Whatever you may decide, make sure it offers ideal aftercare, and that the ink doesn’t contain any ingredients that could harm your skin.
